Match Report: Loko vs AMY FC

Nine Goals, Two Hatricks and a Worldy Of A Goal

" Just Another Sunday League Game ? "

The Start of the new year held hopes high, of players falling over themselves to play, this unfortunately was not the case, as we struggled to get thirteen fit players together for todays game. With Gary and James T still both carrying bad knocks they were our backups on the bench.

The game started well for Loko, lets not disguise the fact that the opposition are not good! Yes they were level on points with us in the league but even with a injured squad our bare 11 would beat this team 9/10 times.

The return of Chris for the New Year is a big plus for Loko, within five minutes he had their left back wishing he stayed in bed this morning. He constantly ran past any player that come out right to try and stop him with an end product of a cross every time. Dave F on the other wing played a long ball out to Chris on the right who again went passed his defender and to the right of the keeper and slotted home to get the scoring started! 1-0

We were all over A.M.Y. Tony playing at left back coming forward with a great long range effort that just skimmed over the bar. Dave F next, with a long shot from the right just wide of goal. Chris just wouldn't let up running a mock down the right side.

Some great long kicks today from James Cornwall, repeatedly found the head of Hayden who knocked on to Lee to set up an attack that ended up with Lee firing home on the edge of the box as the ball sat up for him! 2-0

Dave F, fouled, had to go off with a resulting injury, so we had the return of James T. A shift in postions as he went up front, Hayden into the middle and Stocker and Tony switched positions on the left. The first half, of this half, was all Loko, I think we could all feel that this could be a battering from us however, the latter 10 minutes of the half saw A.M.Y get back into this game a little. With an initial different set up we started to rush balls into each other and misplace easy passes. When you are winning a game fairly comfortably the foot tends to come of the pedal and not enough movement, momentum or commitment was prevailing from Loko.

This led to an attack from AMY down the right and a squared balled found one of their players with a fairly easy tap in as James stood no chance in our goal. 2-1

We needed to get our game back together and understand no matter how bad the opposition you can always lose a game of football.

Half Time

Following the half time talk we came out wanting this game more! A long ball from Hayden out wide to Chris yet again saw him skin two players along the touchline and cross the ball directly to the feet of an awaiting James T who finished easily to give us a well deserved two goal lead. 3-1

A great run on the left from Stocker followed by a long curling ball into the box was controlled by Hayden in the box but got under his feet as he was tackled by the defence.
Minutes later Hayden dispossessed an AMY player in the center of the pitch and played the ball forward to James T who shot well passed the keeper from a fair way out. 4-1

Chris once again turned it on pace wise to leave their left back, even with support from their midfield, trailing a long way behind and once again a pinpoint cross fell to Lee who easily slotted home. 5-1

AMY started to collapse as we went in search of more goals. We had momentum and wanted to win! Matt this time, picked up the ball and went long to James who's pace, even with a displaced knee, was too much for any AMY defender. to the left of the keeper for a second half substitute Hatrick!6-1

Birthday boy Lee M didn't want to be outshone today. Hayden taking the ball from a player in the center, passed forward passed the defence for Lee to run onto the ball, one on one with the keeper, and his trick / trip baffled the keeper, as well as everyone else, to leave him with a empty net to slot into. Hatrick ! 7-1

Going into the last 10 minutes all was very easy for Loko as Neil, Scott, Danny and Stocker didn't look troubled at all at the back, the midfield were winning tackles, headers and distributing the ball to other Loko players as well as defending when needed along with Lee on the rampage and James up front, half fit, had already scored a hatrick each! However to be fair to AMY they fought back! They hit the cross bar from a long way out and James was forced into a couple of saves late on, then came a goal any professional footballer would be extremely proud of. A cross from the right side from an AMY player was met inside our area by an acrobatic forward who's bicycle kick was met perfectly as the ball went into the top corner of our net! What a goal, fully deserved round of applause from both teams. 7-2

However great of a goal it was, they still needed reminding from Matt that the score was still 7-2!

Weekly Three Questions

Did We Deserve To Win Today? Yes

Did We Put It In Today? As much as was Needed Yes

Man Of The Match?

Before we talk about this weeks award I'd like to take this opportunity to to award JAMES CORNWALL man of the match on our last game vs Chessington Galaxy! Due to work commitments I didn't have time for a match Report but would of given this award to James as he produced numerous great saves to keep the score at only 0-1!
Back to this week! On previous reports I have always commented, that to take a Man Of The Match award away from someone that scores a Hatrick, would take something really special even more so when two of your players score them, however, a performance that gave us a goal and assisted a further two, can be just as important and cannot be ignored. If you were to ask the opposition, I am sure they would agree with me that this weeks Man of The Match goes to CHRIS. So great to have him back creating chances for the team, well played mate!

Final Thoughts

Its the same old saying that you can only beat the opposition in front of you and that's what we did and pretty comfortably at that. Yes they are a weakened team but again yes they are currently level on points with us in the table so this was an important win!

Inconsistency still weighs heavy with us as current form shows week in week out we win, lose, win, lose with a different side most weeks. When we were good today, we looked great and can hope that we carry our form on to the rest of the season with a good finish in the league. The return of James T with goals as well as Lee M scoring is something we have lacked of late so good to see that side of our game return. With Gary not far away from fitness and Mackie still to come back, we could have a strong finish this year!

Remember: We Win Together, We Lose Together, We Drink Together, We Are Loko!
