Match Report: Lokomotiv vs Surrey Wanderers

A Keeper That Scores , Four Goals, and a Loss :(

" There is nothing Constant in this world but Inconsistency "

How can we be so emphatic one week and so poor the next?

As before every loss, preparations for today's game were not good with a lack of player availability, being the most influencing factor.  The surface of the pitch looked ropey along with its downhill gradient that was always going to influence proceedings.

Was nice to see Mr Loko himself, a.k.a Ivan, was back for a cameo role to help out today.

We set out with a change of formation and went 4-5-1 as Luke, even though available, was not quite match fit and with Danny and Scott missing from the usual back three we had to be sure we were not going to concede. Oh by the way, did I mention our captain took one for the team and went in goal?

With all this change around us we didn't actually start that badly. We had so much time on the ball and space around us. This was good for Lee as he ran everywhere taking players on and causing a nuisance. An early ball in from the right saw a deflected header from Hayden go wide.

We looked fairly comfortable with Lee's runs leading him into the opposition area where he was clipped from behind, giving Loko a penalty! With our regular taker in goal who was gonna take this one ? Matt of Course. His shot slipped under the keeper to give us the lead.
1-0.

Not being back in goal for long when he was called upon with a great point blank save from which the deflection fell straight to a Surrey player with an open goal in front of him, unfortunately for him he didn't know Mason was in defence today! A superb lunge from the little man saw him block another point blank shot at our goal! ( Great Stop ) !

How many games have you seen a goal keeper score a penalty at one end and save another at the other end? This looked possible as the referee , who by the way was atrocious today, judged that Neil fouled a Surrey player in our area when it was clearly a long way out of the area? A Surrey penalty was slotted wide of goal to let us keep our lead.

Half Time

With Ismail turning up to take over in goal and our top goal scorer Luke, coming on
We all felt we should see this game out with a slight win. With the Ref having an absolute shocker it was inevitable that a bad decision from him gave a clear offside goal, from Surrey, its legitimacy. Not even the linesman flag going up was enough to change his mind?
1-1

Loko to be honest didn't really do anything notable in the second half except Mark Reed making some good overlapping runs on the left hand side taking on players.

Surrey started to play long down the Loko right towards their pacey striker. He broke and shot from outside the area to beat Ismail to his right. 2-1

The Third goal came from Surrey from a mistake at the back following a great save from Ismail. 3-1

Full Time

Surrey Wanderers 3-1 Lokomotiv

Weekly Three Questions

Did we deserve to win today? Probably not

Did we put it in today? No

Man Of The Match?

Total opposite from last week where picking a Man was difficult and a lot  closer , the phrase " The Best of a Bad Bunch" maybe harsh but hey? This weeks award goes to Lee M. Always involved and carried the ball very well with loads of energy.

Final Thought

To be so good one week and then so poor the very next is hard to explain ? Yes there was a change in formation, bad Preperation, 2 keepers down , 3 Strikers down so you would have to be silly to think that these factors didn't contribute to this weeks loss, however, the team we played should be beaten by our reserve team ( if we had one ) even on a bad day!
We simply were just not good enough and not prepared enough for this fixture. Cup final places were to be had this week, as they will be for the next two games, loyalty will hold as strong as talent / ability in deciding these. Undoubtedly we will be back to our good form for next week against Castle Hill.
