LACKLUSTRE LOKO IN AIR KICK CONTEST

Moormead United are a non affiliated team and they have proven good sparring partners over the years. Last time we played them in Richmond we played a very fluent game and trounced them.

Today though was a different proposition. On a pitch that looked more like a valley than a football field, our players found it hard to hang on to the ball. It was not so much a kickabout in the park but more like an air kick fest.

With no real forwards available on the day, Loko were going to have to be resilient in midfield and in defence against a vastly improved outfit. Their Spanish midfield maestro in particular was pulling the strings whilst they had a big guy upfront who was a constant menace in our half.

The only genuine opportunity that came Loko's way happened on 19 minutes when captain Matt hit the crossbar with a half volley from the edge of the box. Apart from that, any Loko attacks were more than often nipped in the bud.

Loko's lack of technical excellence was compounded by a lack of composure with too many passes ending up in our opponents feet or going into touch.

As time went by, it became abundantly clear that, no matter how many times Neil (pictured above) on the right hand side of the pitch and Beni on the left hand side would mount determined attacks down the flanks, Loko stood no chance of scoring.

On the plus side, we were always vigilant from their corners or their counter attacks.

As the game was drawing to a close, their big forward swept past two defenders and was heading towards our goal only for Mark to foul him on the edge of the box. Freekick. As the ball flew over the quickly assembled Loko wall, there only remained for eve- green Ismail in goal to scoop the ball over the bar to save a perhaps not so well deserved point.

Final score Moormead United 0 vs Loko 0.

M.O,M: Energetic NEIL pips Beni to the post - just.

Line-up:  Ismail -  Neil, Mark, Ivan, Marcel - Beni, Matt, Gary, Andrei, Duncan (then Jim, 15') - Dave F
