Match Report: Accrington Stanley Bowles vs Loko

Sportsman's League,
Senior Amateur Division

Sun 15 Feb 2015
Accrington Stanley Bowles 4 vs Loko 0

SUNDAY, BLOODY SUNDAY....

Loko had 12 players available today - but, as usual, not enough forwards.  So, in order to give the team more width and speed down the wings, assistant manager Gary went for a 3-5-2 formation with Tom and Chris playing as wing backs and the 3 defenders instructed to play narrow.

The tactic seemed to work in the first 20 minutes as Loko were not playing well but keeping it tight at the back and launching a few attacks down the wings.

Sadly, on 20 minutes, as Neil and Mark were trying to clear a dangerous ball on the edge of our box, Neil slipped and their number 10 got the better of him and smashed the ball into the net off the crossbar, crucifying new keeper Jody.

A second goal came 12 minutes later when their number 8 shimmied past Ivan in the box and placed a well executed shot in the bottom right corner.

Despite Chris and Tom marauding down the wings and the midfield and defence combining well and keeping it all together, very little was created in front of their goal as their defence was very tight.

Half time Accrington Stanley Bowles 2 vs Loko 0.

The second half was very much in the same vein with Loko now under more and more pressure against a team that plays well and doesn't seem to panic.

On 60 minutes Dan R came on for Ivan as Loko were desperately trying to snatch a goal back.

On 79 minutes, following an Accrington Stanley corner, Mark cleared the ball on the line but, seeing an opportunity to head the ball into the net with a rebound, their number 11 threw himself forward but his head collided with Mark's foot and he fell to the ground. With blood streaming down his nose the ref stopped the game and as their guy was writhing in agony, Chris, one of the two doctors on the team, attended to the casualty as a pool of blood was forming on the pitch whilst their man was waiting for an ambulance to rush him to hospital.

The ref decided it was back to business and gave Accrington a penalty for the offence, which their centre forward slotted into the empty net...away from the pool of blood - probably to the relief of Jody our keeper.

ASB scored a 4th one on 87 minutes when their number 5 connected with a cross from the left.

M.O.M: CHRIS, who played his role as wing back to perfection.

Line-up: Jody - Neil, Mark, Ivan (then Dan, 60') - Chris, Gary, Matt, Hayden, Tom - Danny, James
