PLUCKY, DECIMATED LOKO CRUMBLE IN GOAL AVALANCHE

Loko took the field with only 10 men today and this with the background of very unkind circumstances.

Some of the squad players were obviously not up for it and simply didn’t want to play whilst one who declared himself available didn’t turn up.

Other had valid excuses namely Neil who would have loved to participate but was unable to play let alone walk after a severe bout of flu whilst Mark and Gary were carrying injuries. Plus, Tom’s mobile alarm let him down.

Saying that Loko didn’t have a chance in hell of qualifying for the third round was the understatement of the year, yet, with only 10 players on the pitch, Loko gave a fantastic account of themselves in the first 10 mns and almost unsettled St George with their plucky forays into their half despite not having a forward to their name.

It only took St George 10 mns to start getting into gear though and they scored when a cross from the left saw their number 10 slot into the back of Gary’s net as the ball came off Mark.

This was followed by a second goal that was slammed in the back of the net following yet another cross.

Loko never gave up though and were threatening the St George defence and goalie with the odd shot.

On 23 minutes, as another Loko attack was halted by the St George defence, Matt took the freekick twenty yards out and delicately placed the ball on the shiny dome that is the head of unmarked IVAN who nodded it over the keeper and into the far corner for the first Loko goal vs St George in over 200 minutes.

From then on, Loko felt they had the wind in their sails including Chris who slalomed past 4 St George players and passed for Lawrence in the box but his shot was blocked by the St George keeper.

St George probably viewed the Loko goal as a minor hiccup as they put another 4 goals in the back of the Loko goal.

To make matters worse for Loko, Ben and Matt were now struggling with injuries and Dave F pulled his hamstring as he was heading for the St George goal and had to come off 7 minutes before the end of the first half.

The second half saw Loko trying to keep up with St George but continuous attacks down the right and left wing were taling their toll on the now decimated Loko outfit.

Tom managed to get to the ground with 25 minutes to go but despite being back to 10, Loko started crumbling and were unable to frustrate the opposition despite them being caught offside on numerous occasions.

Dave F was now in goal and even made stunning save from a fierce shot but his injury was too easy for St George to take advantage of and after conceding another 4 goals, he definitely came off and gave way to Gary again.

Gary was on the receiving hand of another 4 St George goals including a penalty that hit the crossbar and came off his backside on its way in.

All in all, despite the goal avalanche Loko did captain Matt proud by fighting for their chances despite the odds.

Final score: Loko 1 vs St George 14

M.O.M: Chris was a real jack in the box today showing great energy and nice turns. A great addition to the squad.

Line-up: Garry – Ben, Ivan, Mark – Chris, Matt, Lawrence, Ismail, Lee  - Dave F, Tom (on 65’),
