Putney Athletic 6 vs Loko 0

MAKESHIFT LOKO COLLAPSE IN SECOND HALF

This game was arranged at the 11th hour because our cup game got postponed by a week. The team bore very little resemblance to the league team that lined up the previous week. Thanks to the efforts of Matthew and Marcel in particular, though, we managed to get 12 players on the day.

Putney Athletic were first out on the pitch  and started warming up hard 45 mns before kick-off whilst the Loko troops strolled in at the last minute.

Wandsworth Park is not reputed for its quality pitches and the surface was, indeed, very bobbly. Despite a poor build-up to the game, Loko held their own in the first 20 mns of the game although they created very little in front of goal due to the absence of a natural goalscorer in our ranks.  In the middle of the par,k Mo was dribbling like a sugar-hungry puppy and Andrei was getting stuck in and tackling hard like a Silvester Stallone on steroids, which meant that Loko were keeping Athletic at bay.

However, on 26 minutes, Athletic were awarded a freekick 25 yards out. Their number 8 lofted a long ball over the heads of our static players and their number 11 volleyed the ball into our net for their opener.

Again, there were very very few chances coming our way except for a couple where Matthew and Alejandro found themselves one on one vs their goalie but were unable to capitalise on it.

Half time: Putney Athletic 1 vs Loko 0.

At half time, skipper Matt made it clear that our performance was shocking  and that he expected much better.

Sadly his words fell on deaf ears and the early signs were rather bleak. With the Athletic outfit making their fitness and skills count, Loko were on the back foot and overwhelmed. Several of our players were now struggling with their lack of fitness and awareness and Athletic sensed blood.

On 54 minutes, their winger ran down the line and crossed across our box only for Neil, who'd be running his socks off, diverted the cross into his own goal.

This was followed by a further 3 goals where their forwards were at liberty to crucify Ismail as Loko were running out of energy and seemed to lack any motivation. The last goal came from a penalty and put an end to any Loko hopes as Loko suffered their most humiliating defeat for over a year.

Final score: Putney Athletic 6 vs Loko 0

M.O.M: The award this week is a joint one. It goes to NEIL (pitctured above) who was a rock in defence and showed great composure and leadership and MO, who despite hanging on to the ball for too long at times was a creative force in midfield. Special mentions to Andrei and Marcel for their spirit and combative nature.

Line-up: Ismail - Stefano, Neil, Ivan, Marcel - Matt, Andrei, Matthew, Adrian - Matthew, Liam (then Alejandro 20 mns) then various roll-on roll-off substitutions.
