Match Review: Loko vs Sporting Club Santar

Sportsmans League (Div 2)
Sunday 13 Jan
Loko 3 vs Sporting Club Santar 0

SUPERB LOKO DELIVER PERFORMANCE OF THE SEASON

Vigilance was the keyword today. Despite only having played four league games so far, Sporting Club Santar had an immaculate record. A reportedly well-organised outfit that had thrashed their four opponents this season, Santar were likely to be Loko’s toughest opponents in the league this year.

The first few minutes proved the point. With many Portuguese players in their squad, Santar typically passed the ball crisply around the pitch. But Loko were ready and waiting. The Railwaymen played  well and passed the ball with great composure, flair and precision.

This resulted in a first half of the highest calibre. Santar got caught offside time and time again and Tommy was sweeping up admirably, launching rockets upfield and marshalling a very well organised defence where Terry, Neil and Marcel were also having a very good solid game.

Up front, Loko were performing very well, too. On 12 minutes, a Dave F corner saw Sayumg nod the ball just over the bar. Then five minutes later Lawrence opened the defence up, ran down the left and crossed into the box where JAMES T was lying in wait and slammed the ball into the roof of the net for Loko’s deserved opener.

Loko 1 vs Sporting Club Santar 0.

Ten minutes later, yet another Loko attack saw Adil pass to Lawrence and again onto James T for him to slot the ball into the empty goal but this effort was disallowed for offside.

Loko created more breathing space for themselves on 40 mns when James T passed to Dave F who laid the ball on to ADIL (pictured above) on the edge of the box for our Catalan striker to despatch an unstoppable mid air shot to the left of the Santar keeper and into the net.

Half time: Loko 2 vs Sporting Club Santar 0

The second half was in the same vein. Great technical ability on both sides, a tight Loko defence complete with a hard working midfield and rockets down the wing vs Santar who now seemed more subdued and could not get their heads round the offside rule as they got caught out time and time again.

Chances were being created on both sides including an Adil freekick twenty yards out to the right that went wide.

The game was certainly a pleasure to watch, even more so when James T attempted a spectacular overhead kick from a Dave F cross but the ball flew just over the bar.

Santar were now leaving big gaps between their midfield and their defence and another attack saw a James T shot parried by the keeper just on the edge of the box. Joe followed through and goal number 3 looked like a certainty but our player hit the keeper instead of the back of the net.

Loko hammered the last nail in Santar’s coffin when Adil’s cross from 30 yards out on the left got deflected by a Santar defender only for KEVIN who’d been following this through to hook into the empty net from 2 yards out on 83 minutes.

Final score: Loko 3 vs Sporting Club Santar 0

Club Secretary Ivan said: “Perfect gameplan. Perfect team spirit. Perfect result. Perfect 10!”

Man of the Match: Adil, James T, Sayumg, Marcel, Tommy and Terry in particular played very well today but exceptionally, MOM goes to the 14 Loko squad players on account of their determination to secure the result of the season so far.

Line-up:
John - Terry, Neil, Tommy, Marcel - Sayumg, Ismail (then Ivan 70’), Lawrence (then Kevin, 60’), Dave F (then Joe 65’), James T – Adil.
