Match Report: Northcote Falcons vs Loko

League - Sportsmans League, Division 2
Sunday 9 Sept
Northcote Falcons 1 vs Loko 5

CLINICAL LOKO GET OFF TO PERFECT LEAGUE START

Solid. Composed. Team-spirited. Positive. Clinical. As is often the case with Loko, despite some unflattering results in pre-season, the railwaymen got into top gear for their first league game.

However, the first 10 minutes looked decidedly uncertain as Northcote Falcons were controlling the game and Loko were severely under the cosh and could not get hold of the ball. The odd incursions into the Falcons half resulted in a foul on Terry and a Dave F free kick from 30 yards out to the right of the Falcons goal that flew past the far corner.

Then Kevin, who was desperately trying to prove to the gaffer that he is not a defender went on a couple of mazy runs into the opposition’s box and passed it deep into the path of Piers but the number 9 debutant’s kick with the outside of his foot fizzed past the keeper’s right post.

Another Kevin run into the box ended up with a square pass for Dave F who shot past the left of the keeper’s post.

The deadlock was broken on 16 minutes though when PIERS latched onto a long ball from Dave F and chipped the advancing keeper just outside the box. Northcote Falcons 0 vs Loko 1

On 19 minutes, JAMES T turned on the style with a goal a la Ronaldinho where from a long ball from the right, he swivelled, controlled the ball, turned his defender and unleashed a spectacular volley to the right of the keeper. Northcote Falcons 0 vs Loko 2

Then followed a chance where Kevin despatched a long ball onto James T again who lobbed the keeper but hit the post.

Loko made the first half secure on 31 minutes when Tommy fired a long ball over the Falcons defence for JAMES T who slalomed past two defenders and slotted the ball neatly into the back of the net. Northcote Falcons 0 vs Loko 3

The second half got underway with Stefano coming on for Andre and with the Loko men now  looking at protecting their lead, which they did with aplomb despite a few half hearted Falcons attacks.

Marcel was now playing on the right wing and making use of his speed whilst Jake was also launching penetrating runs down his wing. In the meantime Matt, Terry and Dave F were controlling the midfield whilst Said and Tommy were both composed and playing the ball out of defence time and time again.

On 70 minutes, Dave F took a corner from the left and laid the ball onto Terry who crossed to the far corner for IVAN who deflected the ball into the far corner. Northcote Falcons 0 vs Loko 4

With only 14 minutes on the clock, another run from Jake saw the team’s youngest player attempt a shot that ended up looking like a cross which JAMES T recovered. He then dribbled past a defender and curled his shot into the far corner to make it a fantastic hat trick. Northcote Falcons 0 vs Loko 5

A rare lapse in concentration resulted in the Falcons team manager and number 10 run onto a pass down the middle and into our box. The ball bounced off John and hit their man in the goolies but this didnt put him off as he slotted a consolation goal into the back of our net.  Northcote Falcons 1 vs Loko 5.

Club secretary Ivan said: “We’ve now broken our duck with our first league win this calendar year!  What a dream start with fantastic team spirit and great passing. On another note, thank you to the lads who have started paying their memberships.”
M.O.M: James T, who else? Special mentions to Kevin, Tommy and Marcel.
