Loko 1 vs Worcester Park Rangers 4
This was certainly going to be a tough game against a team playing a division above us and so it turned out despite Loko fielding a decent team on a grey Sunday afternoon.
Loko went behind after only 2 minutes when, following a corner kick, the ball - comically - got stuck between Ivan' legs then bounced off in the path of one of the more alert Worcester players who stuck his foot in and his low shot ended in the back of the net from 2 yards out. From then on it was one way traffic with their forwards, especially their tall, strong number 10 causing panic in the Loko defence whenever he was heading in the direction of our goal.
On 20 minutes a throw in found its way past our defence and ended up on the right hand side of our box where their number 12 simply had to chip John for their second goal. Loko 0 Worcester Park Rangers 2
Manager Terry then re-shuffled his defence and played himself in the heart of it. From then on, things stabilised for a while until a free kick from the right of our box saw Worcester score their third goal when their forward's header bounced off the crossbar into our goal. At half time Terry gave the team a piece of his mind and told the players to man up, which they did.
Indeed, for the first 20 minutes of the game, Loko were back in control with more fluid passing in the middle of the park and James T running their defence ragged with his shimmies and runs down the left. DARREN also showed what a versatile player he is when, latching onto a ball from Greg that carved their defence open, he found himself one on one with their goalie who he crucified with a long shot to the keeper's right and into the back of the net. Loko's confidence was on the up and the railwaymen should have scored a second one when Jamie T was fouled in their box for all to see except the ref who waived play on.
As the Loko men were beginning to tire after a valiant second half, their major threat, namely their big number 10, outpaced the whole defence and chipped John from 8 yards out. Game set and match despite Loko's last rallies including a corner kick that saw Ivan head the ball back into the path of Lawrence who was thwarted by their solid defenders as he tried to put his foot in.
Club Secretary Ivan said: "We didn't turn up in the first half but, in the second half, we showed we can play decent football - roll on our first league game on 9 Sept".
M.O.M: With his speed and technique, he caused Worcester Park many problems and should have been rewarded with a penalty so M.O,M goes to James T. Special mentions to Terry, Darren and Tommy.
Line-up: John - Jake, Ivan (then Andre, 30 mns), Darren, Stefano (then Marcel, 30 mns) - Terry, Dave F, Kevin, Tommy, James T - Greg (then Lawrence 25 mns)
