Captains Corner: September 2010

Your Captain Steve Haley:
"The tournament in Switzerland back in May was another great experience although the loss of so many players through injury after the first day proved too much of an uphill struggle in the end. In true English style we didn’t disgrace ourselves off the field and to quote Homer Simpson: 'when participating in sporting events, it's not whether you win or lose, it's how drunk you get'. Dale’s dad Ian didn’t let us down to name just one!!!
Here we are at the start of another domestic year and in my view there’s much reason to be optimistic. With the addition of one or two new faces we've a settled squad and should now be familiar with each others game enough to be able to mount a title challenge this season. We proved last season that when we get our game going we can match any team but it's down to all of us to produce week in week out and show a desire to win.

A good 3-2 win over Deportivo De Brentford in a pre-season friendly set us up for our first league game last week against Invictus but we were unable to push on from there and were unfortunately defeated 2-1. We showed in the second half what we are all about and if we can play like that from the first whistle, do the basic’s right and start communicating better with each other i'm sure we’ll be putting a smile back on the managers face!"
