Match Report: Loko v Celtic

Sunday 28th January 2007
Barnesalona League

Lokomotiv Londres FC 0 v Celtic 0

Battling Loko Gain Valuable Point

A good point for Loko against League leaders Celtic. Loko missing a number of key players and having a bare eleven turn up for the game, did well to earn a draw especially after Dave W (pictured below) got injured just before half-time.

The return of a number of players next weekend should boost the team for the test of Hendrix, in what will be the first game against them this season, due to the abandonment of the game in late November.

- Loko sit in sixth place with 14 points due to a draw and defeat in their last two league games.

- Loko have the fourth best defence and sixth best attack in League competition this season scoring 21 and conceding 14 and a plus 7 goal average. We have scored at 2.1 goals a game and conceded at 1.4 goals a game.

- Celtic have scored 40 goals at 4 goals a game and conceded 12 at 1.2 goals a game.

- Roger is the League leading scorer on 11 goals with Sebastian Collonge in second place way behind on 6 goals. Stefan has 3 goals and Dave H has 2 goals further down the list. In League and Cup together Roger has 15 goals with Barnes' Alan Cronin on 12 goals in second place.

Barnes FC 3 v Lokomotiv Londres FC 5

Barnes Battered By Butler Hat-Trick

A great performance by the lads ensured that Loko's lead at the top of our Cup Group was increased over Barnes. The day got better when news filtered through that Uncle Bob's in third place slipped up and lost at bottom of the table Ladbroke Groovers 6-2.

The game didn't start as Loko planned with Barnes grabbing an early lead from a set-piece. Stefan (pictured below) scored to equalise and then scored again with a volley from a corner to give the away side some joy.

Arguably the games best goal followed and after Peggy had evaded three tackles he made a defence splitting pass in behind the defence for Dave H to latch onto, come inside the defender on the edge of the box and hit the ball with the outside of his foot into the bottom corner.

Half-Time Barnes FC 1 v Loko 3

The second half again started poorly for Loko with a simple looking ball over the top catching the defence unawares and the forward ran through and cooly finished past Julian. Roger then came off injured, and Ismail replaced Julian in goal with the latter taking Rogers place up front.

The equaliser came five minutes later when an air shot by a Loko defender failed to even make contact with the ball and it ran into the path of the attacker to score what would probably be the easiest goal of his Barnesalona career.

Loko then took the lead again with twenty minutes remaining through Stefan who hit the ball sweetly from the penalty spot over the advancing keeper to give him a well deserved hat-trick. The fifth arrived when Julian ran down the left and played the ball into Stefan who laid it off for Peggy to hit it into the keepers top left hand corner.

The boys throughly deserved the points and special praise to Stefan who not only scored the three goals but put in a performance of non-stop effort, and deservidly gets this blogs award of man of the match.

Loko Struggle With Set-Piece Masters

A goal from Roger (pictured below) was not enough as Loko lost out to the physical presence of Uncle Bob's. Some strong attacking play and plenty of fluid passing all through the game, created enough chances to win it, but unfortunately Loko couldn't hit the target often enough and when they did they came across a keeper in inspired form.

Honours Even In Local Derby!

An encapsulating contest between these two local rivals ended in a fair one all draw, as Loko shaded the first half, whereas Barnes shaded the second.

Loko started brightly and made a few great breaks early on that should have been capitalised on, Roger on a few occasions bringing the ball down on the edge of the area but just failing to created the half a yard of space needed to seriously test the keeper. Barnes had a few corners but only one shot in the first half which cleared Julians crossbar by a few inches.

Good interlinking midfield play around half an hour into the match sent Dale away down the right, who just beat the defender to the ball and whipped in a superb first time cross for Stephen (pictured above) to head in brilliantly at the far post.

A few good deliveries into the box by Dale, saw on one occasion Pete mistime a free header in front of goal when he could have scored with a firm contact and a teasing cross by Lineker was cleared off the line by the back-tracking defender for a corner.

Half-Time Score Loko 1 v Barnes FC 0

The second half was much different as the half of the pitch Loko was attacking was extremely boggy and it was a struggle to play the ball into feet and use the wings. A mistimed header by Rohan after an hour gifted the Barnes player a run on goal and Julian pulled off a superb save only for the rebound to fall at the feet of their centre forward Sebba who beat Jules and also Pete who was back on the line desperately trying to keep the ball out.

Barnes had a lot of possession for the rest of the half but didn't force Julian into a save for the rest of the match. They had a good opportunity at the end where their right winger shot over the bar from six yards when he really should have scored and that was about it.

Loko had chances to win the game, James hit a shot on the turn from ten yards out which whistled just past the upright, Roger ran through on goal and tried to round the keeper unsuccessfully, his ball across goal was latched onto by James but the Barnes defence put in a good last ditch tackle.

Dale then had two long distance free kicks from the left hand side, one was beaten away unconvinvingly by the keeper and the second one evaded everyone and went two inches past the far post, where any sort of touch by a Loko player would have resulted in a goal.

So aside from a lack of second half possession, Loko will be disappointed with the result and see this as two points dropped against a team they know they should be beating. Uncle Bob's next week in another big league contest.

Captain's Corner - January 2007

These are Roger's hopes for the New Year and the rest of the season:

"If anyone had told me before the start of the season that we would be only six points behind the league leaders and top of our cup group by Christmas, I would have taken that.

Overall the start to the season has been fantastic and because we have put ourselves in such a good position, we must realise that from now on every game will be a Big Game.

Fixtures for January begin with Barnes in the league and a chance to keep pressure on the league leaders. Followed by another league game against the champions, Uncle Bob, who we have already beaten this season. Next up, a cup game against Barnes, where a win will put us on the brink of a semi-final. We round off the month with Celtic in the league another team that we have beaten.

We have proven by beating Uncle Bob and Celtic the teams that finished first and second in the league last season that we have the players, squad and attitude to make this a great season, lets not throw away all the good work we have done so far.

Happy New Year to everyone connected to Lokomotiv."
