Captain's Corner - Post Season / Pre-Tournoi

Your Club Captain Paul Dwinfour on the season past and the Tournoi about to begin:

"A long and hard domestic season is over now with us ending up in fifth place in the final league standings. That’s a top half finish and means we’ve achieved our principal aim – a creditable performance from which we can all take a degree of pride. The top half is where a team of our ability should be and I always believed we would make it. Credit should go to all of the players who have contributed to another enjoyable season. Next time round, we aim higher.

The final day victory against Said was something of a cameo of our season. We never make things easy for ourselves, show flashes of real quality, occasionally ride our luck, seem to suffer an awful lot of bad luck but ultimately we pulled through to achieve something that is no less than we deserve.

We have every reason to look forward to the Tournoi in Hungary. There is no doubt we are capable of winning the competition. We’ve recently shown the kind of sophisticated passing game that is most likely to pay dividends in the tournament. Our performances throughout the season have cemented our belief that we can be winners.

We know that winning a series of matches over 2 days isn’t easy but our tournament experiences over the past 3 years must increase our determination to fully do ourselves justice, not just in one game but all the way. With a calm and confident approach I believe we will be successful this time round, so let’s make sure that we’re poised and ready to give it our all from the very first whistle."
