Captain's Corner - November 2005

This is Captain Paul Dwinfour's November installment:

"Back to back victories in league and cup against a decent Barnes team followed by a third straight victory against Said has set us once again on track to achieving our goals for the season. We’ve bounced back well from a draw and defeat against Auckland, the last-gasp equaliser we conceded to deny us victory was hard to take but hopefully lessons were learnt.

The first victory of our winning run was a superb all-round performance for which everyone should be applauded. The second was less convincing but demonstrated our improved belief and fighting qualities. Against Said the performance was patchy but sufficient to ensure a comfortable victory.

We’ve clearly now established an ideal launching pad to move upwards and forwards in league and cup. Now, let’s push on and do even better. We’ve ridden our luck a little on occasion but deserve to be on this winning run. With absolute concentration alongside our belief we’ll make further progress and be rewarded with more positive results I’m sure. However, we must be mindful of the danger of complacency. There are no easy games in this league, not for us. Lacklustre displays are liable to be punished, let’s remain focused from start to finish.

Last year around about this time we put together a run of 4 successive victories. We can do at least that again or even better, and then go on to maintain our form through out the rest of the season, but only if we stay on top of our game in terms of our approach. Currently we are placed 6th in the league, respectable and moving in the right direction but not yet where we should be. Let’s keep the good things going."
