Loko Fall Just Short in Comeback!

A magnificent comeback from the boys after being 4-0 down at half-time just failed to bag a priceless point to get our season up and running, a bit of discipline, composure and pride saw us fight back superbly especially considering we had numerous new players in the team.

We started on the back foot playing a 4-4-2 and couldn't get a foothold early on, and Rangers took the lead with a little help from a sloppy piece of defending, their player forced his way past two defenders and hit it from just outside the area on their right and it found its way into the bottom corner, the boys needed to be more physical and maybe Ismail in goal could have made a better attempt.

The second came shortly afterwards when they had a long throw from their right, won a flick on and their player hit it on the half-volley into the top corner, a quality finish but again he was loose in the area and we should have been tighter.

We came back into the game and won a couple of corners, Samuel and come on for Paul K and hit a shot over the bar, and Thomas nearly got through on goal only for a latch ditch tackle from their centre back to put the ball out for another corner.

The third goal was an easy one-two on the edge of the box and their midfielder ran through untracked and Dale and Ismail collided as they tried to get in the block, but the midfielder won the race and hammered it home over Ismail. The fourth followed shortly afterwards and should not have been conceded because it was a hopeful ball to the far post and Ismail should have dealt with it but failed to collect the ball and their player bundled it over the line from two yards.

Half-Time Eel Brook Rangers 4 v Loko 0

Dale who had tweaked his calf early on swapped with Ismail and went in goal with Ismail slotting in at the back, Peggy replaced Dave and Mark came on for Steve. Dale had switched to a 4-5-1 with a few minutes to go in the first half but enforced his change of shape with what he specifically wanted at half-time and told Andy to sit in front of the back four and stop them running through, with Mike playing further forward and supporting Roger when the opportunity arose.

Loko made a much more solid start to the second half and started putting in challenges and standing up to the physical battle, we kept the ball much better and the centre of the park become much stronger and solid.

The comeback started when the ball was nicely played through the field starting from Samuel at right back, into Mike and Andy in midfield and played out to MARK on the right who lobbed the keeper from just outside the area. After the goal Loko consolidated and kept the shape and were winning the ball all around the park, their No. 8 was having too much influence in midfield and Dale asked Andy to keep tight to him whenever he came into the Loko half. Rangers had a couple of long range shots but were not as threatening as the first half.

Loko scored a second when Ivan and Peggy worked the ball down the left, played in ROGER (pictured above) who held off the defender attacking from the left and slotted into the keepers right bottom corner. The third came moments later when Samuel played the ball down the right and THOMAS cut inside two defenders and drilled low to the keepers bottom right corner, as the keeper appeared to be out of position too far to the left of his goal.

Eel Brook tried to keep the ball and play out time by booting the ball out of play, and had a couple of corners and long range efforts all of which Dale gathered or watched out of play. Loko made a couple more attempts at getting in scoring positions and Mike put in a last ditch corner that was well cleared by the defence and time was always ticking down until the referee blew his final whistle.

Final Score Eel Brook Rangers 4 v Loko 3

Manager Dale Mellor's comments:
"I have to say that at half-time I feared it would be a repeat of last week, but we changed shape and everyone stood up to the physical challenge in the second half. We started to compose ourselves and play the ball around instead of panicking and we looked far more solid defensively when we played with a holding midfielder.

We still have a lot of good players out and I'm confident we can be beating teams like this if we start as we finished and don't panic on the ball. With our full squad we can push on, become more solid throughout the park and start to play our natural passing game. Players should be returning over the next couple of weeks.

I would like to thank the new players for coming in and helping us out, and it is never easy to play so many new players and gel straight away, and this showed in the first half. Let's look to make ourselves available regularly and get used to playing with each other on a more consistant basis and results will improve.

Hopefully see you all next week."

Loko Outbattled in Game to Forget

It was De Ja Vu for Loko in this first game of the season, as with last season we started with a stratch team with players playing out of position, with no keeper and it really showed.

Only eleven players turned up and there was a no show from who we thought would be our new goalkeeper. Mark (pictured above) went in goal, Dale, Ivan, Chris and Paul K were in defence, with Simon, Peggy, Marc and James in midfield and Dave and Samuel up front.

Loko started ok but the first goal was a long ball, Ivan and Chris both went for the same header, missed it and Chris was too far behind his man who ran through and slipped it past Mark.

We had a couple of promising moments early on, Peggy got down the left and floated a ball to the back post but nobody was coming in, then Samuel was slipped in but was given offside and it was a tight decision.

Pimlico killed the game off when they twice got wide played balls across the goalmouth and tapped in from inside the area. Poor play and we were now second to most balls.

James had hurt his ankle after the first goal and was now just a passenger not able to get involved so he swapped with Mark and went in goal. Chris and Samuel both got yellow cards for late tackles and fines will be on their way.

Half-Time Pimlico Rangers 3 v Loko 0

Dale asked for a little desire, composure and discipline in his team talk and for ten minutes after half-time we got this, but a mis-hit goal kick from James went straight to their striker who was pushed wide by Dale, he slipped a ball back into the box and their centre midfielded hit a low shot that James couldn't make an attempt for because of his injury.

Straight from the kick off Dave ran through three men and laid it off for SAMUEL who curled the ball home into the top corner and was a Loko comeback on the cards, sadly not, as a headed clearance from Dale was pounced upon by three of their players in the box whilst we stood and watched and they again shot low knowing James couldn't react.

The sixth and seventh goals were both throw outs from the keeper, mistakes by Loko players and one on ones with easy tap ins, it was schoolboy errors from a team whose confidence had disappeared.

They also hit the bar twice in the closing moments both from defensive mistakes and Loko were relieved when the final whistle went. Having only eleven players, with players out of position, the injury to James and no keeper was a step too far.

Final Score Pimlico Rangers 7 v Loko 1

Manager Dale Mellor's comments:
"It was a bit of an embarrassment today, I know we only had eleven, injuries and no keeper but their was no desire, composure and discipline today. Only one player stood out today and that was Simon who was everywhere on the pitch and put in a fantastic performance.

We need to have some structure in place in order to progress and as such the club will be producing some rules to follow with consequences for not complying, as it is unfair on the rest of the team who have been let down on numerous occasions.

Heads up, we have a lot of very good players to come back in and I'm positive that if we play this team with our full squad we would beat them nine times out of ten.

Lets get a team out to compete next weekend."

Match Report: Deportivo De Brentford v Loko

Deportivo De Brentford 3 v Lokomotiv Londres FC 1

Loko Defeat After Dominant Display

The first game of the season you either love or you hate. It is a chance to get back into football after a summer of sun, sea and ashes wins, or it is the dreaded first game where your lack of fitness really shines through.

Loko had a great turnout for the first game with thirteen attending in all, but already the Club had two no shows, and for one of those people, it was the last straw with this happening on a number of occasions last season and that player will no longer be involved.

Ismail kindly agreed to go in goal, we had a back four of Ivan
, Dale, Rich and Paul K, centre midfield pairing of Mike and Andy with Terry and Peggy on the flanks. Samuel and Roger started the game up front. The referee and opposition allowed us to make regular substitions so Dave knew he wouldn't have to wait long to get on, and Chris did the opposition a favour by agreeing to play for them so that we could enjoy an 11-a-side game with them only having ten men. Ivan (pictured) took the captain's armband.

It was a stong start to the game from the Railwaymen with the ball being played to feet nicely and the centre midfield two demanding the ball and playing in the wingers as much as possible. The first chances fell Loko's way with both Roger and Samuel having shots saved by the keeper after good build up play. Shortly after Mike had a fizzing shot that went just past the post.

Deportivo finally b
egan to get into the game and scored with their first real attempt. Andy tried to reach a long kick from their keeper but could only head it backwards towards Paul who was slow to react and the forward got in behind with Paul trailling in his wake. Rich or Dale should have made a covering tackle but neither were on the ball this early in the game and he slid the ball into the bottom corner.

Shortly after the striker got away again but Ismail came out and made a fantastic block with his right foot and they proceeded to head the corner wide of goal. This spurred Loko on and there followed a barrage of attempts at goal, Peggy got in behind the defenders and pulled the ball back twice for Dave to blast over, Terry was played in behind but scuffed his shot when he was one on one with the keeper. Roger turned his man in the area on three occasions and forced two fine saves and saw another effort go inches wide.

The final action of the half saw Loko denied what looked to be a legal goal, when some nice interchanges around the edge of the box saw Mike run from behind the line onto a through ball and slot past the keeper with a good finish, only for it to be ruled out for a confusing offside.

Half-Time Deportivo De Brentford 1 v Loko 0

The second half
started as the first ended with Loko enjoying most of the possession and slowly working their way deeper into Deportivo territory. With subs coming on and off during the game Peggy found himself on the touchline and kept retrieving the ball when it was being booted out of play by the opposition.

Deportivo turned to a long ball game and kept hitting balls hoping for their front man to win the header so that the other could run onto. Rich and Dale both did good work in keepng the front two generally quiet and Rich made a couple of fantastic tackles chasing the striker who was one on one.

Loko had numerous chances to get back into the game, Roger had two one on ones with the keeper from the left angle which saw the keeper save one and the other go across the face of goal and agonisingly wide. Terry also cut in from the right and drilled the ball low at the keeper, the ball went past his front leg hit his back leg and span the wrong side of the post.

Deportivo, as in the first half scored with pretty much their first attempt of the half. They won a corner which was taken short and the player ran in from the byline and played a ball across the goalmouth where the big striker got in front of Rich and sidefooted home. A third came minute
s later when Mike was back defending and attempted to clear the ball only to whack the back of the strikers legs who had nipped in front of him, no blame attached though as he was quite hard to spot......!

Loko went on the offensive again and, as throughout the game, enjoyed the lions share of possession, territory and chances. The goal finally came with a bit of the old route one, Peggy, who had come on for an injured Ivan, chipped one over the defence and ROGER (pictured) ran through on goal and neatly slotted past the keeper.

It didn't stop there, Terry twce cut in from the right after nice link up play with Mike and Andy and cut it back for Dave, who didn't quite get over either shot and skied them both. Roger than played a one-two with Dave and was through on goal again only to see the ball hit the keepers legs.

Deportivo had a couple of late corners which were easily dealt with by Loko, and after a misjudged Dale header the striker hit a shot from the edge of the box which went narrowly wide. Dale almost brought the scores closer when he went forward for a corner and found space in the box but was just stretching too far and saw his header go wide.

Final Score Deportivo De Brentford 3 v Loko 1

Manager Dale Mellor's comments:

"For the first game of the season I thought it was a fantastic performance. Granted the result says the opposite but in terms of possession, terrority and chances we came out on top in every category.

We had a number of new recruits and it will take a while for us all to
gel, but this was a promising start. There are a number of regular players to come back also, so if we can get good numbers each week then there will be competition for places and hopefully we can get some consistency and do well in our new league.

Let us make sure we get over the ball when shooting and become a little more clinical, because all that was missing was some match sharpness and fitness."

Team Line Up

9. Roger

11. Terry
12. Dave (Various On/Off Substitutions)
13. Chris (Played for opposition)

Goal
Roger (1)
70th Minute - Ball over the top by Peggy and slipped past the keeper.

Man of the Match
Roger Barnes - It was a close run decision, Mike and Rich came in and played extremely well and were unlucky to miss out, but I thought Roger's hold up play and his ability to turn the defender was a particular highlight today, lets just start to take more of our chances. Well done to everyone.
