Then, when you get to the (Esporta) Riverside Health and Racquets Sports Club (might have been rebranded as Virgin Active now), turn left under the bridge, follow the road round, past the Chiswick Rugby Club pitch and then you will see a small car park a bit hidden away from the road. Park there and go up the stairs to the changing rooms.

Dire Loko lose niggly encounter

After a good performance the week before, Lokomotiv were looking forward to a good win against a team that we beat soundly back in November and who are currently propping up Division 4.

Looking around the pitch though, it was obvious that our opponents had beefed up their defence and recruited new attacking players since last year’s demolition.

Loko were very poor right from the start. Our 5-3-2 formation was not really working as Jubilee were flooding the midfield, our passes from the back didn’t get anywhere and our attacks were few and far between. Jubilee were becoming more and more menacing, especially on their right wing and it was all hands on deck trying to avert the nimble-footed Jubilee forwards.

Luckily, a freak goal broke the deadlock. On 21 minutes, TERRY, who has been covering in goal for the past two games, accomplished what he enjoys the most – scoring goals. This was a long-shot, namely a free kick from just outside his box, 80 yards out. No doubt, the strong wind helped but his shot flew over the Jubilee defence, bounced in the box and crashed to the right of their motionless goalkeeper.

This beauty was, unfortunately, followed by an unnecessary incident. As Loko were under the cosh, Chris urged Morris to stop giving silly free kicks away and told him in no uncertain terms that he’d take him off at half time if he continued doing so. Our fiery tempered Irishman saw red, responded that he might as well take him off now and just walked off the pitch to everybody’s surprise and new boy James’s likely delight at a Loko start earlier than originally scheduled.

A few timid Loko attacks saw us threaten their defence with in particular a Dave K header that flew just over the bar from a corner by Dave F but the two teams were now neutralising each other.

The second half saw Loko take to the field with a reshuffled backline and a more adventurous 4-4-2. Again, Loko were not being the most fluent to the evident frustration of Imants who was kicking his heels whilst waiting for a decent pass on the halfway line. For a short while and despite the very strong wind, Loko did manage to develop a few convincing attacks but did not manage to capitalise on Jubilee’s weak goalie.

However, it looked like it was going to be Loko’s lucky day after all. On 53 minutes, Imants and James exchanged a short and sweet one-two on the halfway line followed by Imants's deep pass that carved open the Jubilee defence. JAMES outpaced and rounded the sluggish defence, scarpered down the right wing and drilled his shot low to the right of the keeper from the edge of the box and into the net.

The feeling across the park was that Loko didn’t really deserve to be in the lead because Jubilee’s play belied their low league position. Shortly after the goal, Chris (pictured) was involved in argy bargy with their Caribbean forward in scenes that belonged more in a wrestling match or rugby field than on a football pitch. Chris complained to the ref and so did their forward and they both got yellow-carded. The ref was arguably spending too much time talking his decisions through as opposed to trying to keep the situation under control and ensuring the game could go on. Following yet another foul, though, he did warn Chris that this was going to be his final warning. Ivan did also try to restrain Chris but things never really calmed down.

Shortly after that, Jubilee reduced the deficit from a free-kick from the right side of our defence that saw the Jubilee manager score an unlikely goal from 2 yards out.

To Loko’s utter astonishment, this was followed by an ominous, well taken equaliser. Then, Jubilee scored twice in quick succession. With less than 10 minutes to go in this unfolding nightmare, Loko found themselves down to 10 and in total disarray when Chris fouled their centre forward on the left side of our defence and the ref followed up on his threat and, as expected, red carded our manager.

Club Secretary Ivan Rahal said: “A very poor performance all around. Away from the technical side though, I feel that we were the architects of our own downfall. With the score flattering us, we got a bit too cocky and didn’t give Jubilee the respect they deserved. We lost our concentration trying to bully them and being drawn into silly arguments instead of focusing on our game and containing them. Let’s focus on winning games with our heads and our feet, not our fists.”

Man of the Match: Special mention to new boy James, who fitted well into the team, showed great speed and levels of fitness and crowned it all with a well taken, opportunistic goal. M.O.M though goes to TERRY, who scored the goal of the season so far, was vocal and supportive in goal and was never at fault on Jubilee’s goals.

Solid Loko secure deserved point

With two players having to pull out at the 11th hour due to family illness, Loko took the field with a bare 11 on a crisp, sunny Sunday morning.

The absent gaffer’s orders were to defend deep in the first half to avoid a repetition of the last game of 2011 when South West Wolves beat us soundly. Captain Steve’s formation was therefore a cautious 5-3-2. Within a few minutes of kick-off, it was obvious that this was the right tactic for Loko were composed and soaking up South West Wolves’s pressure.

However, on 19 minutes a loose ball from the right somehow made its way into the centre of our defence and, with Steve tracking back, the ball spun into the air with our captain disorientated and stand-in keeper Terry exposed as their centre forward gave Steve the slip and crucified Terry from two yards out. This could have been a sign that the floodgates were about to open but Loko dusted themselves down and applied themselves even more.

On 31 minutes, Imants (pictured) shook off his marker on the right hand side of their box but his shot missed the goal by a few inches. On 36 minutes, Dave F drilled a shot from 20 yards out and it all but looked like a sure equaliser, yet it hit the upright and Greg failed to convert the rebound from two yards out.

Half time: South West Wolves 1 – Loko 0

As the second half got underway, Loko were on fire. The ball was being passed around crisply, the defensive formation was being as solid as ever whilst Loko’s midfield were launching numerous attacks and South West Wolves were on the back foot.

On 47 minutes, Dave F passed from the right hand side of midfield to Greg on the right hand side who lost his marker and cleverly back-heeled to ALEJANDRO who wriggled past a defender into the right hand side of their box and drilled the ball into the bottom right hand side of their goal with aplomb from a closed angle. Cue Alejandro’s ecstatic facial expression and smiles all around. South West Wolves 1 – Loko 1.

Smiles were wiped off our faces within a few minutes though as a cross from the left saw South West Wolves score but their goal was disallowed for pushing Morris in the back. A second disallowed goal followed within minutes when a long ball on the left hand side of our defence saw their winger slip past Marcel, Serik and Ivan and score from an impossible angle but the quiet yet decisive referee called it offside.

On 67 minutes though, an attack on the right hand side of our defence saw their left winger dribble past two Loko defenders and shoot from the byeline. The ball came off Serik and went through Terry’s legs and trickled into our goal. South West Wolves 2 – Loko 1.

Thankfully, this setback didn’t seem to affect Loko’s momentum. Marcel was playing out of his skin on the left side of defence, Steve was sweeping up left, right and centre, Greg was showing some deft touches up front and Imants was spraying balls around at will.

Loko’s efforts were rewarded on 72 minutes. Following a cross from the right, a scramble ensued in their box. Steve spun around from five yards in an attempt to shoot on goal but one of their central defenders took his leg. Penalty. Now Loko haven’t scored from the penalty spot since 2010 so this one had to be thought through. Dave F was up for it and so was Terry. However, Imants wasn't in the mood for negotiation: he grabbed the ball, placed it firmly on the penalty spot and despatched it confidentially to the left of their keeper. South West Wolves 2 – Loko 2.

A last gilt-edged chance to win the game went begging when Imants’s low cross from the right met Greg’s left foot but his shot went just over the bar.

Final score: South West Wolves 2 – Loko 2

Club Secretary Ivan Rahal said: “A good start to 2012 despite us missing a few key players. Steve got his formation spot on, the defence was solid, the midfield was inventive and the attack incisive.”

Man of the Match: “Everybody played well today. Special mention to Greg who, despite missing most of the season, showed great ambition today, whilst Marcel was dynamic and tackled hard in defence. But the M.O.M award goes to IMANTS for his exceptional distribution and composure.

European Tournament (Belgium, 18-20 May)

I hope you're all keeping well and looking forward to our first game of 2012 on 15 January.

Before Euro 2012, we'll be playing (and spending) our own euros at our own European Tournament, which is taking place in Blankenberge in Belgium from 18th to 20th May.

The tournament features 8 teams (Belgium, England, France, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Spain, Switzerland) and is played over two days (2 groups of 4 then semi-finals or play-offs then final).

We will be taking 15 players and as many supporters/family/friends as we can. For the new players amongst us, this is a fantastic tournament that's been going since 1993 and that we've won twice (1994 and 2009). In 2011 we were runners-up to Hungary at Bisham Abbey.

The total cost (excluding travel) is 250 euros (£209 as at 31 Dec) if staying 3 nights (Thursday, Friday, Saturday) or 220 euros (£185 as at 31 Dec) if staying 2 nights (Friday to Sunday)

If staying for 3 nights, the cost includes hotel accommodation, 3 breakfasts, 2 lunches, dinner on Friday night, gala dinner and entertainment on Saturday night + all your football (3 refs, usually great pitches)

If staying for 2 nights, the costs includes hotel accommodation, 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, dinner on Friday night, gala dinner and entertainment on Saturday night + all your football (3 refs, usually great pitches)

As regards travel, most of us will be travelling by car/ferry so we can share the costs.

Wolves pounce on Loko-men

The game vs Sportsmans’s League debutants South West Wolves was an opportunity for Loko to consolidate its second place just before the festive break. South West Wolves have had an inconsistent start to their first season so the Railwaymen were confident they could get a good result despite the fact that they were missing five regulars.

From the word go, though, Loko were all over the place. Passes were going astray, clearances were being miskicked, players were caught napping on the ball, tempers were frayed and the defence and midfield were panicking. Waves after waves of Wolves attacks saw Loko defending the trenches and unable to develop their game whilst Steve and Terry upfront were feeding on scraps.

Loko simply didn’t know how to deal with South West Wolves and Gavyn as well as Morris (pictured above) in particular were fouling a lot on the edge of our own box but, thankfully, Wolves' free-kicks didn’t threaten much.

Following a rare attack where Loko looked like they might break the deadlock, South West Wolves’counter attack saw them outflank our defence and their forward crucify Junior from the edge of the box on 29 minutes. This was followed by almost a carbon copy goal with, again, the Loko defence out-of-position and their tall centre back not believing his luck when he found himself one on one on Junior who he beat with a low shot to our goalie’s left from 10 yards out.

Having rarely been in such a predicament over the past few weeks, Loko were floored and wondering how they were going to turn the situation around.

At half time, Junior was livid and directed his anger at Ivan in particular for venturing too far afield and not doing his defensive job.

Our goalie’s message seemed to have the necessary effect as Loko started the second half with renewed vigour, getting their tackles in, passing the ball slightly better and beginning to threaten their goal. From a long ball from the midfield, Terry found himself one on one on their keeper and odds on to reduce the deficit from 7 yards out but their diminutive goalie made a splendid save by diving to his right.

On 57 minutes, a Wolves attack on the right saw a cross find its way behind Junior but Ivan cleared the ball on the goal line, only for their winger to win the ball back and cross again to their oncoming centre forward who was now clear on goal and simply tucked the ball into the empty net from two yards out.

At this stage, Ismail, who’d been playing his heart out despite not having fully recovered from a recent illness pleaded for Chris to go off but the gaffer was keen for him to stay on the pitch. Consequently, Alejandro gave way to Marcel but Loko were rapidly running out of ideas. The game was becoming predictable with some of our players losing their discipline and even trying to take on four players in the middle of the park instead of passing to their teammates.

A fourth goal came on 68 minutes where the defence got caught out again. Their forward beat the offside trap and smashed the ball past Junior from 12 yards out. There was now simply no way back and, to make matters worse, Loko were reduced to 10 with 15 minutes to go when Ivan got injured and had to come off. Terry was desperately trying to rally the troops but as the game wound up with no more serious Loko challenges, heads dropped as Loko were closing 2011 with the worst performance of the season.

Club Secretary Ivan Rahal said: “We were very poor today – inaccurate passing, poor defending, no discipline, no team spirit. Does this mean that we are just an average team when our star forwards are missing? Our first game back on 15th January is also against South West Wolves, so we need everybody back and in good shape to show Wolves what this season's Loko is all about.”

Man of the match: Although rather isolated, Terry tried his best but the last M.O.M award of 2011 goes to Junior for his performance and fighting spirit.

Athletic demolition sends Loko 2nd

Kensington Athletic were soundly beaten 7-1 by Loko in the cup just over a month ago. Revenge was undoubtedly on their minds, hence a few new faces on their team including a Fabrizio Ravanelli doppelganger in goal in place of their previous blundering keeper and a very composed and skilful 45-year old centre back who used to play with Les Ferdinand at QPR in the eighties.

Yet, once again, Loko were first out of the starting blocks. On 4 minutes, Terry wriggled past his marker down the left and despatched a perfect cross for RENATO to nod into the empty goal from one yard out.

From then on, it was one-way traffic with Loko playing the beautiful game to perfection despite a greasy pitch. Kensington Athletic were playing better than a month ago though and were occasionally threatening our goal. From a corner from the left, their number 10 smashed the ball from 8 yards out but Ivan was closely guarding the front post and kneed the ball out of the way. Yet, danger was still in sight but Junior sprang like a squirrel and saved a close-range shot that looked like a sure equaliser.

On 23 minutes, with Athletic defending heroically in their goalmouth, RENATO strode forward, nicked the ball as if by magic, twisted and turned past 3 bewildered players and drilled the ball into the net from an impossible angle to the delight of the scout videoing from the touchline. Rumour now has it that Renato might be on his way to the Swedish first division….

What followed was yet another wave of Loko attacks. Dave J, who was venturing forward more and more frequently, dribbled past three players all the way to the Kensington byline and his cross was only deflected at the last minute. Then, from a corner, Ed volleyed beaufifully from the edge of the box yet his clean and powerful strike was saved by their keeper. Five minutes later, Imants took his chance from twenty five yards out and his low shot came within five inches of their goal.

On 35 minutes, Gavyn, who was making his presence felt across the middle of the park headed an Athletic goalkick back towards their goal and into the path of IMANTS who scampered down the channel, rounded their keeper and scored Loko’s number 3 from a narrow angle.

Half-time: Kensington Athletic 0 – Loko 3

With 49 minutes on the clock, an exchange between Imants and Renato ended up with TERRY on the right outpacing their left back and placing an accurate shot past the Athletic keeper for number 4.

Was it tiredness? Was it a feeling of mission accomplished? Whatever, it was, it must have come as a surprise to all and sundry for Loko were now suffering at the hands of a very lively Athletic. Their attacks had more zip than ever before and they almost reduced the deficit when a long cross from the left was parried but then dropped by Junior dangerously close to the goal line only for Terry to clear from behind our keeper.

5 minutes later, Chris (pictured above) misjudged the direction of the ball out on the left and was taken over by their forward only for Junior to save in style. The crossbar also came to Junior’s rescue from a long shot a few minutes later. Remission was close at hand though.

On 68 minutes, Renato drove a hard shot from the left edge of their box but it got blocked by their central defender. The ball wasn’t cleared properly though and ALEJANDRO, who was lurking in the 6-yard box, enjoyed the easiest of tap-ins from one yard out.

Despite their comfortable lead, Loko kept playing as if their lives depended on it. Ed and Gavyn in particular were as passionate and physical as ever but it was definitely mission accomplished, namely yet another great result and second place in the league.

Club Secretary Ivan Rahal said: “With a squad like this, we can give any team a run for their money. We’ve only got one game left to play this calendar year (on 18th December) so let’s make it a perfect midseason post-match celebration with the first round of drinks on the club! “

Man of the Match: TERRY – one great goal, one assist, one goal line clearance and plenty of effort throughout. Special mention to Junior, Dave J, Gavyn, Imants and Renato.

Loko turned up on time and in force today unlike the referee whose unpreparedness meant a late kick-off. But the old adage ‘”Good things come to those who wait” proved quite apt - in particular for a scout in attendance who’d come to check out two of our players with a view to offering them a professional football future in Turkey…

Northcote Falcons looked a decent team right from the start, passing the ball neatly on ILEA’s smooth surface and causing problems to the Railwaymen who seemed rather taken aback by the quality of the opposition. On a narrow pitch, the game was very tight from the start with a lot of the action taking place in midfield and Loko not being able to develop their game sufficiently against sturdy opposition.

Yet, on 13 minutes, Loko were awarded a free-kick thirty yards out, at 11 o’clock from the Northcote goal. Deliberations as to who was going to execute it were short lived as an assertive RENATO took a few steps forward and despatched a cannonball low to the left of their goalkeeper and into the net.

On 20 minutes, Dave J picked a ball in midfield and passed it to the left of DAVE K (pictured above) who took a shot from the edge of the box and scored number two.

This was followed ten minutes later by another RENATO goal who crucified their keeper from 7 yards out.

On 32 minutes, DAVID K, who was seemingly in no man’s land near the left hand side corner flag, took on a defender and, with his back to the goal, completely mystified his marker by backheeling the ball past him, brushed past another defender and scored with a shot from 4 yards out that beat the keeper to his near post.

Then followed a rare error by Junior who misjudged the trajectory of a shot and dropped the ball in front of one of their forwards only for Stefano to clear the goal-line to the relief of our keeper.

A fifth goal came soon after that where RENATO, again, lost two defenders and scored to the left of their keeper from 5 yards out.

Despite this flurry of goals and Loko now being in full control, the Falcons’heads never dropped. From a corner from the left of the Loko goal, their number 7 was two yards away from reducing the score but his shot over the bar will surely qualify for the Torres-Miss-A-Sitter-Award of the Year. Falcons were keeping the pressure on but were always on the receiving end of a Loko counterattack launched from our now dominant midfield.

With the team playing superbly, manager Chris decided to stick with his starting line-up for the first 10 minutes of the second half. On 55 minutes, the three team changes resulted in a shaky few 15 minutes were the team didn’t look as focused – or was it a case of taking one's foot off the gas?

However, on 61 minutes, RENATO scored his fourth of the day by meeting a cross from the right from Imants and drilling his shot low down to the left of their keeper.

Our samba star was now scenting blood on a big scale and even tried to lob their keeper from 45 yards out a la Pele but his shot missed the goal by 3 yards. However, soon afterwards, RENATO managed a 5th by lobbing their keeper from 25 yards out.

However, on 70 minutes a corner from our left saw hesitancy in the box result in a consolation goal for the opposition. This was followed 9 minutes later by yet another goal for the Falcons where a shot low to the ground beat Junior from 15 yards out.

The Loko of old would have started panicking but there was never any chance of this happening despite a few lapses in concentration.

On 70 minutes, Terry, Imants and Renato exchanged passes 30 yards out and eventually released it onto DAVE K who strode into the box and beat the keeper with a diagonal shot for number 8 from 5 yards out.

This was followed by two almost carbon copy goals where, first, Terry’s corner from the left saw unchallenged RENATO head the ball just under the bar and then, following another cross from Imants on the left, RENATO crowned his performance with a tenth Loko goal.

With the exception of Marcel clattering into one of their forwards rather vigorously and almost leaving him for dead, the rest of the half passed off uneventfully as Loko were understandably catching their breath after what will remain a record-breaking score for the Railwaymen.

Club Secretary Ivan Rahal commented: ‘This is undoubtedly the performance of the season with everything clicking into place. A no-nonsense defence, a creative and aggressive midfield and dazzling forward play. A perfect ten indeed.

Man of the Match: Tough one this week…Not…Renato deserves the plaudits for his clinical performance today where every strike looked like it was going to result in a goal. This doesn’t take away though from the whole team performance where Dave K deserves a special mention for his three-goal spree and so does every single man on the pitch today.

Loko succumb to Rhinos' attacks

Today’s match started in chaotic fashion with the referee reluctantly allowing the game to kick off 10 minutes late due to our goalkeeper Junior running late. Dave J also struggled to find the pitch and was asking Morris for directions over the mobile whilst both teams were observing two minutes’ silence to commemorate 11th November.

Junior turned up 10 minutes into the game and, regrettably, this meant that Marcel had to be taken off after having started in an unfamiliar position on the left wing. At this point, Loko were getting into their stride and fending off Rhinos’attacks relatively well despite their number 8 causing our defence problems with his dummies and pace and their midfield captain pulling the strings from midfield.

On 14 minutes, their forward outjumped Igor and headed what looked like a sure opener but Junior pulled off an incredible, instinctive save from 2 yards out.

On 19 minutes a corner from the left ended up with Morris trying to defend his goal but handling the ball. The ref immediately blew his whistle and, despite Junior’s gesticulations and attempts to put him off, their captain placed the ball low and hard to our goalie’s left and into the net.

Despite missing five regular players, Loko were holding their own valiantly and the two-division gap was not that obvious with Dave K and Terry in particular threatening the Rhinos’defence. On 32 minutes, Loko were awarded a free kick in a dangerous position on the edge of their box but Terry’s kick missed the Rhino goal by a couple of yards.

The game was on a knife’s edge with Loko's hopes riding high.

Half time: London Rhinos 1 – Loko 0

The second half started with the same ebb and flow but, despite fighting hard, our midfield was clearly lacking muscle and height and was having difficulties with our opponents’aerial play. Fortunately, the defence was coping well with Chris in particular sweeping up and Stefano (pictured) having one of his best games this season.

However, on 68 minutes a deep ball from midfield was not picked up and their forward outpaced Igor into the box, rounded oncoming Junior and slotted the ball into the empty net.

With the odds against them, the Railwaymen were still up for a scrap though and determined to go all out to reduce the deficit. On 72 minutes, TERRY lashed onto a ball from Alejandro and, finding himself one on one against their keeper who had advanced to the right edge of his box, he calmly lobbed the goalie with the ball rebounding into the empty net. A few more attacks from their fast forwards saw our defence get out of jail on a few occasions including their right winger missing a sitter from 1 yard out when his header flew over the crossbar.

But the turning point came on 79 minutes where Ivan who had run across the box to cover for Stefano handballed instinctively as their left winger’s cross was threatening to add a few more wrinkles to his face. The ref had no hesitation in blowing for a second penalty. With adrenalin kicking in, Junior tried to psych their captain out but, once again, the Rhinos’ number 10 despatched the ball low and hard to Junior’s left and into the net. A fourth goal followed 5 minutes later when Junior pushed a powerful shot away but onto the path of their unmarked forward who clipped the ball into the empty net unchallenged.

On 83 minutes, a ball from the edge of the box was deflected by their central defender onto his own upright into the path of SERIK who scored from 5 yards out. The renewed optimism and glimmer of hope were soon replaced by dejection though when Rhinos put the last nail in the Loko coffin with their number 9 drilling the ball low and hard into our goal from the right edge of our box. Despite a few attempts to restore pride, including a Dave K slalom past four Rhinos players, Loko were now seriously running out of juice with hopes of a ticket into the third round all but dashed.

Final score: Loko 2 – London Rhinos 5

Club Secretary Ivan Rahal said: ”We battled hard but Rhinos have pace, fitness and quality in attack. We gave them as good as we got but fatigue got the better of us today. Let's now focus on the league where we stand an excellent chance this season.’’

Solid Loko performance yields result

Loko started their game at Roehampton Fields today with an almost new look team as five regular players were unavailable. Manager Chris decided to go for a balanced 4-4-2 with new boys Alejandro playing up front and Igor partnering Chris in central defence.

The game was also balanced from the outset with both teams trying to find their marks on a big pitch. Much of the battle was taking place in the middle of the park where Gavyn the Terminator was heading and tackling like a man possessed whilst Dave J was playing his highly effective game a la Scott Parker. Meanwhile, Imants was showing great touches and spraying the ball around despite being surrounded by two defenders on many occasions.

On 27 minutes, the ball was passed from midfield to Alejandro on the edge of the box who cleverly laid it on to TERRY (pictured) on his right who drilled it low and hard into the keeper’s bottom right corner from ten yards out.

Hurlingham Energie were trying to pass the ball around but had to resort to hopeful long balls down the wings but to no avail. Marshalled by Chris and captain-for-the-day Junior, the Loko defence were disciplined, solid and communicating well and keeping Hurlingham at bay.

As things were ticking along nicely and Loko were in the lead, Chris decided to stick with the same team for the first 10 minutes. For the first 15 minutes, the flow of the game remained the same, namely box to box with few threatening incursions. Things were hotting up in midfield though where Gavyn was, again, taking no prisoners. Our opponents were getting hot under the collar though and were seemingly at a loss as to how to deal with him. The ref was remaining his cool self though and never let himself be influenced by Hurlingham’s complaints.

Then followed a series of corners where Loko could have put the game out of Hurlingham’s reach. From the first one, Ivan rose above two defenders but his goalbound header was cleared on the goal line. Then Morris, who’d come on for injured Dave F headed the ball in the direction of the goal but also saw his effort cleared. The third chance fell to Chris whose header wouldn’t go in either. This was followed by a free kick from Imants from the right hand side of their box but it flew high above their goal. Then Alejandro hit the crossbar from 8 yards out.

On 76 minutes, Imants got clipped on the foot in the box so the ref immediately awarded Loko a penalty. Then ensued a verbal “tug-of-war” between Imants and Terry who both felt confident they were the best man for the job. Terry won. He struck the penalty hard to the left of the keeper who dived the right way and saved it brilliantly. This was our third penalty miss in the last three attempts but Loko heads never dropped. From a through pass from midfield Alejandro found himself one on one on the keeper but scuffed his shot. Five minutes later, Alejandro again found himself clear on the right hand side of their box but skied it.

On 79 minutes, Alejandro again laid the ball on for MORRIS and our tireless Irishman slammed the ball in the roof of the net from 10 yards out.

Hurlingham Energie 0 – Loko 2

With 10 minutes to go and in a scene more reminiscent of a celebrating X Factor panel than a tense league match, three of their players clapped and cheered in unison as Gavyn eventually received a yellow card for a challenge on one of their players. Despite a last free kick on the edge of the box and a few furtive Energie attempts Loko were in cruise control and never looked like conceding especially with their pair of safe hands in goal.

Final score: Hurlingham Energie 0 – Loko 2

Club Secretary Ivan Rahal said: “A well deserved win for a solid, disciplined team where everybody played in their position. Credit to Hurlingham too for playing with a smile on their faces. Can’t wait for next week’s BIG cup game against Rhinos who are currently third, two divisions above us.”

Referee Costs Loko Battling Point

The Loko team were prompt on the pitch at Tooting Common unlike the ref who had forgotten about the clocks going back. Loko knew they were in for a tough game against the free-scoring league leaders who were reported to be young, fast but... beatable...

Bec Utd were first out of the starting blocks and the Railwaymen were trying to repel their constant attacks right from the start. Ivan, who had started well, was having a particularly torrid time of it against his fast winger who was pressing on and trying to capitalise on long balls over the defence but Steve and Dale (pictured above) provided a last line of defence in front of our impeccable keeper.

Loko’s attacks were quite rare as we were reduced to counterattacks from our badly exposed midfield. Renato in particular was trying his best whilst being completely surrounded by two or three defenders most of the time.

Loko were panicking at times and not playing on the floor of a relatively smooth surface but the watchword throughout the first half was defence. However, from a corner from the left on twenty seven minutes, their keeper deflected the ball onto his crossbar and Terry was a few yards away and with an open goal but he unfortunately headed it over the bar.

Eight minutes later, from a corner from the left again, Steve had a clear chance on goal but his header missed the goal by a yard. Then a Renato free kick was deflected by the wall just a yard wide of goal.

Bec’s ravaging runs continued unabated up until 10 minutes before the half when Loko went up a gear and got their defence more in control and were now beginning to believe in themselves more. Bec Utd were fouling our players in the middle of the park time and time again but we were unable to capitalise on the resulting free kicks.

The second half started with Loko realising that, despite their lack of composure on the ball they could possibly nick a goal. From a long ball from the midfield, Renato found himself clear on goal on two occasions but his rasping shots went wide.

Morris and Ed were becoming even more aggressive and winning great tackles in the middle of the park whilst Terry, Imants and Renato in particular were making a nuisance of themselves, yet their defence remained solid.

On sixty four minutes, Imants dribbled past their full back who, from a distance, seemed to trip our Russian midfield maestro but the ref, who as usual was having a very poor, indecisive game would not be fooled by the play-acting.

With just over ten minutes remaining, a swift counterattack from Bec Utd saw their winger get past two Loko players far too easily and headed for the byeline on our right and crossed the ball onto the head of their forward who nodded it into Junior’s bottom left corner and into the net.

Loko were visibly shaken but stirred into action immediately. With less than ten minutes to go, a cross from the right, saw Renato combine with Imants and saw Dale clear on goal in the box and our ex-manager chipped the ball into the empty net for a much awaited equaliser… ...yet the ref called it offside. This caused a lot of recrimination, especially from Dale who got himself booked in the process

With five minutes to the final whistle, all hell broke loose. Ismail who was battling hard in midfield got scythed by a two-legged tackle and writhed in agony on the half way line. Retribution came in the shape of his Irish teammate Morris who was in the mood for cracking a few bones as opposed to a bit of craic and challenged the offender head on.

It was more a case of hand-bags at lunchtime than all-out war but, for once, the ref took the matter into his own hands or rather his pocket from which he flashed two bright red cards. The game was up for these two and unfortunately for the Railwaymen, too.

Final Score Bec United 'B' 1 v Loko 0

“We knew it was going to be hard today but we never really gave ourselves a chance because we lost our composure and never developed the game we know we can. The game was finely balanced in the second half but our forwards never got the service their quality deserved. Let’s get back to our winning ways next week.”

Convincing Win Sees Loko Progress

Loko turned up on a sunny October Sunday morning full of confidence after a great run of results.

Following a spate of injuries and absences, the Loko team though had a new look about it with three new players recruited within the last week and Ed named captain for the first time ever.

Loko were aware of Kensington Athletic’s decent start to the season and took the game very seriously deploying the team in a very prudent 4-5-1 formation. However, the first indications were that Athletic were in a for a tough morning with Loko passing the ball around crisply and threatening their seemingly makeshift keeper right from the start.

In the fifth minute, a tentative, long-range effort from IMANTS from 35 yards looped into the bottom corner – a great start to the game and Loko were now in full swing.

The rare attempts by their forwards were easily snuffed out by the defence where Ismail and Chris never dropped their guard and Ivan and Chris were very vocal with Chris in particular marshalling his defence authoritatively.

After a hesitant start upfront, new boy Renato was beginning to take his chances with a few lethal shots that swerved dangerously past their goal. Meanwhile other new boy Gavyn was making his mark with many crunching tackles and physical challenges a la Vieira.

It was obvious for all to see that, for some reason, Kensington Athletic’s hearts were not into it whilst the Railwaymen were growing in confidence.

On twenty seven minutes, DAVE K went on a mazy run down the left and his shot across the area appeared to cross the line just before the defender hacked into his own goal.

Loko dominated throughout the remainder of the half and Dale had very little to do in goal, with only one long range effort coming his way which went harmlessly over the crossbar.

The second half started in the same vein and the battle in midfield was becoming decidedly one-sided with Imants, Gavyn and Renato in particular terrorising Kensington Athletic.

On fifty minutes, Chris floated a free kick from the half way line into the box and DAVE F got to the ball first and drilled home form just inside the box.

Then followed the RENATO show starting two minutes later, where on fifty two minutes, the boy from Brazil won the clearance in the air against the full back and ran through and slotted home to the left of the keeper for a 4-0 lead.

The only blip came straight after when a ball on the right of our defence was not cleared in time and ended up in our opponents’ feet with their forward launching a rocket from 25 yards out into the roof of our net, taking a deflection on the way off one of our defenders.

They nearly made it 4-2 shortly after when another long rang effort was heading into the top corner but Dale turned it over the crossbar at full stretch.

In the sixty fifth minute, Morris played a great ball out to Imants who crossed to the back post and RENATO scored with a spectacular overhead kick.

Five minutes later, their defenders were messing with the ball at the back from a poor keeper throw and Dave K won the ball, passed to RENATO and he had another easy finish.

Despite this already impressive result, Loko never took their feet off the gas. On seventy five minutes, RENATO, again scored a carbon copy of the first goal, closed down the clearance, won the ball and ran through and slotted it to the left of the keeper.

It was only another five minutes later when the referee awarded Loko its first penalty in all competitions and friendlies for the past 10 months. This caused a lot of discussion with Renato keen on adding to his already impressive tally and goalkeeper Dale dreaming of replicating a penalty strike that won us the European Tournament in 2009.

Dale got the manager's vote. He therefore placed the ball on the penalty spot but his weak shot went straight to the keeper’s feet who saved easily.

A few minutes later and the referee blew his whistle on yet another very encouraging Loko performance and some more moral boasting goals for a variety of players.

Club Secretary Ivan Rahal's comments:
“True, Kensington Athletic didn’t push us today but this shouldn’t take away from our near perfect performance. So it's 10 points to the whole team for application and another 10 points to our forwards and midfield for their clinical finishing. Next Sunday’s game will no doubt be a much tougher proposition against the free-scoring league leaders, so be prepared!"

Loko Hang On For Dear Life

On a mild October day, Loko took to the pitch keen to continue with their fantastic start to the season. With free-scoring Bec Utd enjoying a day off today, Loko saw an opportunity to top the league for the first time ever. However, goalkeeper Junior’s first ominous comment on seeing Parklife warming up was that they had rather tall players and that we were in for a tough battle.

Loko were on the back foot right from the word go and were only able to venture out of their own half on rare occasions. Parklife were dominating across the field and it was a case of clearing your backlines as opposed to trying to build a good passing game from the back.

Loko often found themselves outnumbered. However, hard working Steve and Chris in particular were sweeping up very capably at the back whilst Junior showed great composure when threatened. Waves after waves of attacks saw our vocal goalie grab the limelight with his impressive saves and catches.

The only serious chance for the Railwaymen in the first half saw Imants one on one against their keeper after Morris (pictured above) had won some tackles in midfield, but his effort was saved with aplomb by their number one. Dave K did have a further effort when Dale chipped in a free kick and Dave almost lobbed the keeper with a good effort but the keeper saved well.

With the game proving very hard on our limbs and at a time when the whole team ought to have stuck together, an unnecessary confrontation between two of our players could have derailed our efforts. However, Loko made it to half time without conceding.

At half-time, it was obvious that the players were disappointed with their first half performance but Junior piped up and reminded the team that there were some positives to be taken from this first half – namely that we defended well against a decent Parklife team.

The second half started very much in the same vein with Parklife getting the best of the action and Loko fighting tooth and nail to avoid conceding a goal. Midway through the half, Chris tackled his opponent hard in the box and fell to the floor and seemed to handle the ball but the ref thankfully – and surprisingly - awarded a free kick in our favour.

Five minutes later a forty yard ball by Dale over the defence sent Imants clear on the right hand side of their box but his shot flew over the bar.

Steve was doing very well despite being handicapped by a toe injury, Dave J and Ismail were covering every inch of grass, Chris was commanding in defence and communicating well with his fellow defenders, whilst Imants was showing great touches but was too isolated.

However, the aerial bombardment continued unabated with Parklife’s giants smelling blood and going all out to score the winner. From a corner, one of their forwards slammed into Junior who fell to the floor writhing in agony but our goalie was soon back on his feet rallying the troops despite a few aching ribs.

With fifteen minutes left on the clock, Imants danced past their left back but was tripped inside the box. This was a blatant penalty for all to see except the ref who was not having a good game who gave a free kick outside the box. Roger sent over the free kick and Dale got his head to the ball but could not get enough power behind it and the keeper saved easily.

At the other end of the pitch, following a cross from the left, their forward went all out like a rhino and almost knocked Junior out who lost his rag and complained to the subdued ref that he was getting no protection.

With Loko being outmanoeuvred, some players voiced their frustration and urged Roger to change his formation, which he did switching to a more cautious 4-4-2. This gave us more stability in midfield but with sounds of “how long ref?” becoming more and more frequent around the pitch, Loko were fighting for dear life which became a reality after a long 90 minutes.

“What a difference a week makes. Today was simply a rearguard war of attrition against a vastly improved team. The other very satisfying aspect of this first goalless draw in a long while is the fact that we never gave up – a great team performance!”

Loko Storm Over The Pacific

The build-up to today’s game was eventful to say the least – one of our star players Terry turned up on crutches after suffering a hairline fracture on his foot the day before. The mobile-less ref was nowhere to be found and had to be replaced at the last minute with the game consequently kicking off thirty minutes late.

But much better things lay round the corner for Loko who started on the front foot and had a good go at breaching Pacific’s spineless defence.

On three minutes, a long ball from the midfield over their defence saw IMANTS chest the ball down on the edge of the box and strike the ball past their goalkeeper into the net.

Loko were developing their attacking game in the opponents’ half with only the occasional Pacific counter-attack. Roger, Dave K and Imants were on fire, our midfield were aggressive and pushing forward too whereas Dave J was making a great comeback after his injury.

Pacific were all at sea, however, their counter-attacks left us exposed on a few occasions where their attempts on goal failed because of their wastefulness and Junior’s authoritative presence in our box.

On thirty minutes, a long cross from the right saw their goalkeeper fail to catch the ball in the air on the right hand side of his goal. ROGER, who’d been lurking in the box found himself one-on-one with their goalie, collected the ball to his feet, rounded the keeper and slotted it into the empty net.

With five minutes to half-time, Loko scored another goal which was disallowed because the referee called a foul on the edge of the box instead of playing the advantage rule.

During the break, Roger made it clear to the team that their performance still left a lot to be desired but with only one available substitute the only change was Morris coming on for Stefano.

Although Pacific were becoming more menacing, Loko were dominating in all areas of the pitch and outflanking the rather submissive Pacific defence at every opportunity.

Imants was immense in midfield, controlling the ball and laying it on for Dave and Roger who were outmuscling their defenders at every opportunity whereas Ed was twisting and turning non-stop and running their left back ragged.

Roger should have scored when an Ed centre was headed wide from six yards out and then Dave K twisted and turned in the box but his shot from right in front of goal was blocked by a defender and went out for a corner.

On the hour mark, Ed played the ball into Roger in the box who turned his man and laid it across from the left into DALE who placed the ball past the keeper into the bottom corner.

Imants went on another slalom past several defenders and hit the woodwork from twenty yards out. Chris was even venturing forward into the box and fancying his chances against their hesitant keeper.

This was followed by the fourth goal on the seventy minute mark when ROGER ran his man down the left side of the box and slotted past the keeper.

Moments later and Loko had a fifth, when ROGER ran through after a good ball by Dave K and he rounded the keeper to bag his hat-trick.

Loko were now on fire and with just ten minutes remaining our temporary gaffer had his fourth and the teams sixth when the ball found Imants on the left side of the box, he turned two men inside out and crossed to the back post for ROGER to side foot home.

It was plain to see that Roger was visibly over the moon for rediscovering his free-scoring touch after a few pre-season attempts to play a more defensive role.

Rampaging Loko Start Season Well!

The first game of the new season saw us up against familiar opposition in FC Lonsdale who we had beat in our three previous meetings.

It was a good squad for the first weekend and we lined up in our now customary 4-3-3 formation with Junior in goal, a back four from right to left of Ismail, Dale, Chris and captain Stefano, Tel was defensive midfield with Mark and Ed sat just in front and a front three of Imants, Dave K and Roger.

Loko started relatively slowly and Lonsdale were pressing early on but they were kept wide and were restricted to long range efforts with defenders throwing themselves in front of those time and again.

Ten minutes in and Loko took the lead with our first sustained period of pressure, Tel won the ball in midfield and laid it back to Dale on the half way line, he slipped the ball into Imants who fed ROGER in the box, and a first time turn and shot went across the line, hit the far post and bounced in.

The Railwaymen were now controlling matters and were playing some lovely football in our opponants half but were just lacking that last killer pass, with us getting caught in possession trying to take on too many when it really mattered.

A momentary lapse almost saw Lonsdale equalise when a ball was crossed to the back post and their player won the header but a full stretch save by Junior kept it level and Chris did well to muscle his way goalside and clear the ball.

Loko continued to pass the ball really well and the second came around the half an hour mark, the midfield kept the ball and fed DAVE K behind the defence and he ran one on one and slipped it past the keeper into the bottom corner.

Loko and Lonsdale exchanged long range efforts with both keepers making good saves but the defence of Loko was solid with Chris marking and Dale sweeping and it was a very positive first period.

Half-Time Loko 2 v FC Lonsdale 0

There were no changes at half-time and Roger told everyone that this was not yet won and we needed to keep the shape, discipline and commitment for the next forty five minutes.

Once again Lonsdale started the brighter and came at Loko from the whistle but the defence and midfield were standing up to the pressure well and Junior was loud and organised in goal, commanding his area and claiming anything that came within his zone.

On the one occasion when Junior was beat by their pacy winger's curled shot to the back post, Dale was on the line to head away and maintain our two goal lead.

That was key as a Mark throughball on fifty minutes saw Roger come back from an offside position and Imants make a late run from an onside position and run through, the keeper made a good save but DAVE K followed up and slotted into the empty net.

Five minutes later and Loko were in dreamland when Terry brought down a Lonsdale clearance and beautifully played in IMANTS on the edge of the box and he hit a first time drive full of power over the keeper into the roof of the net.

Morris came on for Ismail and shortly after Dave F came on for Imants. As Loko tired Lonsdale started to press and Terry made a great last ditch slide to deflect the ball over the bar as the goal was exposed.

The pressure finally told when the little winger got behind the fullback and was down the left hand side of the pitch with Dale trying to come across, Junior decided to come out but did not get there first and the winger slotted into the empty net.

Shortly after and the team were again exposed but this time down Lonsdale's right when a ball was played through, Dale again tried to come across and slide but couldn't get the block before the shot was drilled in and it went under Junior into the net for two quick fire goals.

Loko stopped panicking and got their foot on the ball and spent the last ten minutes killing time at the right end of the pitch with a number of throw-ins and corners.

A Chris header was cleared off the line with the keeper beat and Mark somehow couldn't get a clean connection from four yards out and the ball went agonisingly past the post.

"Our first league game is now upon us and despite results not going our way in pre-season we should all be match fit and familiar with the new players who have joined this year and raring to go this Sunday.

Dropping down a league last season should make us one of the favourites for promotion this term but we need to start doing the basics right and stop giving sloppy goals away or its going to be a tough division.

We have a new manager in charge (when he decides to turn up) and some fresh ideas but we all need to start taking some responsibility on the pitch and work as a team in order to move forward.

It's important for us to get off to a good start and get a positive winning attitude throughout the team so everyone get plenty of sleep on Saturday night and bring your 'A' game on Sunday!"

Errors Prove Costly in Tight Affair

Roger stuck with the 4-3-3 formation which we have been trying to get right over the four previous games but made a strong point that if we don’t work hard for each other then it will not work.

It was a slow start to the game on a difficult boberly pitch with neither side able to retain possession and put a string of passes together.

Loko were once again making things hard for themselves by a lack of positional sense and not understanding the system which lead to the only real chance of the half when their striker got in behind the defence, took the ball round Dale and made sure his leg made contact to earn a penalty.

However, Dale produced a brilliant double save to keep the scores level, diving full stretch to his right and tipping the ball onto the post and catching the rebound in his mid-drift (Video Below).

Loko put a couple of good moves together, one in particular from Dave and Greg which but for a great last ditch tackle could have given us the lead at half time.

The halftime team talk focused on playing more as a team and doing the basics by looking for the easy pass.

The wind was now against us and we were struggling to get out of our own half right from the start mainly due to a lack of composure and an inability to make simple five yard passes.

Midway through the half we once again contributed to our own downfall when from our throw in we failed to clear the ball and got caught in possession letting them in behind with three bearing down on the keeper and they were able to just slot past Dale.

Heads seemed to drop from this point and not long after Dale had to make a full stretch save down to his left and then they scored a soft second from a corner due to bad marking and a lack of desire to be first to the ball.

We switched to a 4-4-2 formation and tried to pick our game up after this and started causing them a few problems. Dave dribbled past 2 players in the box, one of whom blatently stood on his foot and brought him down but as had been the case most of the game the ref saw nothing.

We had a few good free kicks into their box but it just wouldn’t fall for us and we were unable to get back into the game.

Late Surge Salvages Point For Loko

Today’s game was against Moormead United, a non–league team playing in our England tops on this occasion. A heavy pre-match downpour didn’t dampen Loko spirits as you could sense our players were keen to get back to playing after a two week break.

The early stages of the game were a very scrappy affair. Loko were all over the place and at times played as if they were strangers to each other. Interim manager Roger’s formation was, again, an ambitious one with three midfielders and three forwards.

This resulted in gaping holes in the middle of the park which Moormead were taking advantage of albeit with no major threat to our team. Some Loko players were overcomplicating instead of playing simple balls and caused a few concerns at the back but Junior was as commanding as ever in goal and snuffed out any significant attacks.

Worryingly enough, though, Loko were not creating any danger with attempts on goal virtually non-existent. However, on the 35 minute mark, a free kick from the right saw Steve deflect the ball onto Ivan who’d gone up and who attempted a volley that hit the crossbar.

The second half saw Roger and Dave come on for Imants and Morris. Despite Roger’s assurance, Stefano’s solid midfield performance protecting the defence and Richard’s incursions on the right, Loko were still unable to impose their game and crack the game.

On the hour mark, their number 14 danced past three of our defenders on the edge of the box and his shot from the left found its way into the roof of our net. Loko looked seriously shellshocked and now had to take action. With half an hour to go and Richard launching neat and composed balls from the back onto Imants and Greg, whilst Roger, Dave and Dale were beginning to pull the strings from midfield, Loko were slowly getting the better of Moormead.

A lot of play was developing on their left hand side with Imants’s quality touches often finding Greg, including a chance where our forward unfortunately couldn’t connect with a pass from the byeline and hit his shot wide from five yards out.

The bombardment of fortress Moormead continued unabated but their keeper pulled a couple of acrobatic saves and their defence proved heroic at times. Another chance saw Dave cleverly passing the ball to his left onto Ivan whose shot from the edge of the box skimmed past the upright.

With just under ten minutes to go and thoughts of a fourth consecutive loss surely looming large on every Railwayman’s mind, Imants sped down the right side of the pitch, crossed the ball and with Greg challenging the defender at the near post resulting in them both missing the connection, DALE gambled with a run in behind and found himself clear in the six yard box and, to every Railwayman’s relief, tapped the ball past the sprawling keeper into the net.

With their tails wagging again, Loko were determined not to let go of their first point of the season, and with two minutes to go, a Moormead attack on our right saw their attacking midfielder sidestep Junior in the box with an open goal in sight but his goalbound shot was cleared off the line by Ivan.

Point and honour saved!

Goalkeeping Keeps It Close

Loko were playing Wee Hoose Celtic who are a division above and have some very good attacking players but we have had some close games in the past and everyone was up for the game.

Loko started with a new keeper in goal, Junior and went for a 4-3-3 attacking formation with Roger playing the holding role.

As we expected Celtic came at us right from the start playing some good linking football but Loko were equal to it with the defence soaking up the pressure and the keeper making some good saves. When Loko got the ball down we played some good football with Terry making progress down the wing and David keeping their defence busy.

It stayed this way for the remainder of the half with Celtic having slightly more of the ball and it was 0-0 at the end of the half. Loko had made three changes at the break and Greg (pictured above) made his first appearance of pre-season.

Roger had a good team talk at half time and everyone was positive that it was goalless as we knew we would have at least a couple of chances during the second half. We aimed to keep the defence tight and push on from there.

However, about two minutes into the second half Celtic won the ball in midfield too easily and their player ran the length of our half past four Loko players and shot past Junior in goal.

Although it was a good finish a Loko player should of made a challenge, or committed a foul to prevent this happening!

As usual this seemed to wake Loko up and the game suddenly became much more open with both Celtic and Loko taking turns attacking. The Railwaymen`s defence was coping well with the pressure and any attacks on goal Celtic did have saw Junior pulled off stunning saves to keep the deficit to one.

Loko had some good attacks on both wings and both Gregg and David were having some good runs and shots but just could not score. It was real end-to-end stuff with Loko edging the final ten minutes but we couldn’t make the pressure tell and time ran out before we could find the equaliser.

"Another good turn out and performance against a very good and skilful opposition, if it wasn’t for a collective lapse of concentration and poor finishing we could of easily had a result.

Loko Run Out of Steam - Just!

We started positively against the ten men of Lambeth United as they were waiting for one more player to turn up. Despite our advantage we couldn’t make the pressure tell and convert any of our early chances.

Ironically Loko went ahead when Lambeth had eleven players on the pitch, there was some good build up play between Roger and Rhyce, who then passed the ball through to Terry down the left hand side who beat the defender easily and slotted the ball past the oncoming keeper for a 1-0 lead.

Lambeth started to settle into the match and play some good football but the Loko defence soaked up this pressure with Steve and Chris in particular making some important interceptions.

The Lambeth equaliser was a soft goal with Ivan adjudged to have pulled the shirt of their striker and the referee gave a questionable penalty which they quickly dispatched for the equaliser.

Despite this set back Loko were playing some very good football building from the back, passing through the midfield, down the wings, feeding our strikers.

The Loko pressure was telling and after some good build-up play through the midfield Rich on the right crossed the ball into the box and Terry was there to slot the ball past the Lambeth keeper and Loko went ahead 2-1.

There were some changes made at half time but the same 4-3-3 formation kept. Despite being 2-1 up at the break and Loko playing some good football we didn’t take the game to Lambeth and our shape went a bit. This could have been down to fitness the new players getting used to each other.

Loko invited the pressure and the Lambeth midfield started to grow into the game and started to dominate the midfield area. The Loko defence were soaking up the pressure quite easily until an injury to Ivan let a Lambeth midfielder through on goal down the right and he beat Ismail one on one to level the game at 2-2.

Loko made some more changes to try to take the game back to Lambeth, however the Lambeth midfield continued to dominate the middle of the park and kept attacking. Again the pressure told and their winger beat two of our defenders far too easily and crossed the ball into the box, Chris attempted to clear the ball but was just out of reach and the Lambeth striker converted an exquisite volley to put Lambeth 3-2 up.

This seemed to give Loko a kick up the back side and for the final ten to fifteen minutes it was all Loko with Rich and Terry tormenting their players down the right and Roger very nearly converted a Terry cross which would have been the equaliser.

Loko were in the ascendency and had at least four or five more good attacks but just couldn’t convert their chances.

"Despite losing to a well organised Lambeth team I believe we played some good creative football, played for each other and would have won the game if not for a lack of match fitness and some costly errors at the back.

I firmly believe that if the game had gone on for another ten minutes Loko would have equalised and even got the winner."

Lack of Composure Costs Loko Dear

Today’s game was against London Rangers who finished above us last season and who have been training regularly for the past six weeks. Compare this to Lokomotiv whose first game it was after a two-month break. On his inaugural match as pre-season coach, Roger (pictured below) went for a surprisingly ambitious 4-3-3 formation.

The difference in preparation told right from the start with Rangers running Loko ragged and their midfield launching pinpoint attacks from the middle of the park with lots of long rockets being launched to their two nippy forwards. Despite the onslaught, Lokomotiv held it all together especially with Roger and Dale often breaking down their attacks.

On the wing Diego was making a nuisance of himself, however, Loko were not threatening the opposition’s goal. Steve, Ivan and Dale were winning the aerial battle against their diminutive forwards who more than often complained to the referee about fictitious fouls - but the referee remained unperturbed.

On the negative side, a couple of our players were being too selfish, taking on more players than their fitness allowed or even shooting from distance without any consideration for their better placed teammates.

On 23 minutes, Morris fouled their forward on the right hand side of our box. The resulting freekick curved past the three-man wall and took a deflection off Ivan and Ismail, with their striker following in to put the loose ball into the net.

Loko were still fighting but our lack of composure on the ball against their more skilful players was leaving holes throughout the pitch for them to foray and end up in front of our goal where only their lack of composure prevented them from piling more agony on Loko.

On 33 minutes though, Roger gave the ball away on the edge of our box and their winger passed it down the middle for their forward to tuck it into our goal.

Half-Time Loko 0 v London Rangers 2

Various substitutions took place at half time including Richard, our triallist who slotted into the right back position. Despite being ill over the past few days, Richard showed excellent composure and great skills including a few quality runs down the wing.

On 50 minutes, Diego crossed the ball across the midfield onto Michael who had his back to the goal. Our Portuguese forward passed it back to Diego who laid it on nicely for Michael again to turn, lose his marker on the edge of the box and slam the ball off the bottom of their right post into the net.

This quality finish lifted Loko’s spirits and the next 15 minutes were all Lokomotiv with the team at long last passing the ball to feet and becoming a real menace although the end product never looked like matching the build-up.

On 65 minutes, with four Rangers players in our half against our seven in defence, Rangers took advantage of our lack of mobility to add a third goal from a ball that got crossed from the left with their forward chipping it into the net from five yards out.

Some of the Lokomotiv players were beginning to lose their rag against their players who kept complaining to the ref about our physical but generally fair football. Steve got into an unnecessary argument with their forward as they were attacking us, thus leaving us exposed and their forward shot in the direction of the goal from the edge of the box with Ismail desperately trying to parry it but to no avail.

Then followed some argy bargy that could have only benefited Rangers as we were wasting a lot of nervous energy arguing whilst three goals down.

“With a little more composure, discipline and support for each other, we could have possibly grabbed a draw. True, Rangers were fitter than us and the score doesn’t lie. Having said that, I was quite surprised by the fact that our energy levels were not too bad after two months’ inactivity.

We’ve got three more friendlies before our league season starts, which is a great opportunity to trial more players so please let me know if you know of any quality players out there who could strengthen the team!”

New Season 2011-12

I hope everyone is looking forward to the new season, hopefully we can have a positive pre-season and kick on from there.

Even though we have moved down a division I believe with our existing squad including any new players we can beat any team in the league and bounce straight back up at the first attempt.

However we should not be complacent and we need everyone to do their bit and be available as much as possible and put performaces in!

We have a good team spirit so let's build on this and play for and encourage each other as we all make mistakes and some results won't go our way.

Most of all let's try to enjoy ourselves as afterall we are getting up early on a Sunday morning which is hard enough at he best of times!

New Quality Players Wanted

Our team plays in the Sportsmans League in South-West / West London and our homeground is at Raynes Park Playing Fields in Raynes Park.

We play our league games on Sunday mornings from September to May. We also participate in an annual eight-team European tournament every month of May (Winners in 2009, Runners-Up this year).

We're now looking for QUALITY and reliable players to strengthen our team, preferably a goalkeeper and quick goalscoring forward's and we will be trialling new players in friendlies on Sunday 7th, 14th and 21st August.

Press Release: New Manager for The Railwaymen

The Club are very pleased to announce that following an intensive interviewing programe, Chris Clarke has been chosen as the outstanding candidate to get this fallen giant promoted back to Sportsmans League Division 3 at the first attempt.

He will be assisted during pre-season and the first few games by Roger Barnes, who's experience of the game can be of vital assistance to the new gaffer.

In other news, Ivan Rahal will continue to be Club Secretary and outgoing manager Dale Mellor will maintain his role as Website Editor. Both will still continue to be part of the playing staff.

It is anticipated that the majority of the playing squad, including Captain Steve Haley, will return next year with trials taking place in pre-season to bring some fresh talent into the team.

The playing squad are due back for pre-season on Sunday 7th August 2011, which will consist of a friendly against as unnamed opponents.

It was a pretty good tournament for the lads and we were a little unlucky not to make the quarter finals, we were made to pay for conceding a goal with pretty much the last kick of the first game.

If Ed had realised the rules earlier he may have given us the lead but ran into the area with the ball and we lost to that late goal.

In the second game we dominated throughout and were given a penalty when one of their players was stood in the middle of the area, Terry stepped up and sent the keeper the wrong way.

With other results, we had to win the last game to qualify and again dominated throughout the game, with their keeper making a number of saves from Dale, Ed and Terry. The draw sent them through and sent us to the pub.

We were meant to play four matches but a team didn't turn up so we had a friendly against the same team we drew with in the third game so that we could have our full four matches we paid for. We dominated again and this time Marc hit a low drive into the bottom corner towards the end, if we could have done this in the previous game we would have gone through.

Dale, Terry, Mark, Morris and Greg headed to London Bridge for drinks with the first four not heading home until 10pm. It was a good day and a decent performance that didn't get the rewards that were deserved.

Player of the Tournament is jointly shared by Marc (pictured below) and Morris who were superb at the back and gave the team a good platform to build from.

Undefeated but Hungary for More!

After months of organising by Ivan and Dale the England Tournoi 2011 was a go and the Copthorne Hotel in Slough and Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre were ready for the Old Boys arrival.

England had a strong squad of fifteen players with fourteen at the hotel and Dave coming on the Friday morning. Then we had Denise and Marcus, and Donna and her two children cheering us on and staying at Bisham Abbey.

Ivan and Dale arrived at the hotel on Thursday late afternoon to meet the teams and they met the with Rose and Valentina to get the t-shirts and programmes ready for each nation.

Ivan and Dale went for a meal with the Swiss and then had a late night trip to Tesco to buy the 660 litres of water needed for the games, where Ivan nearly died a death by trolley on escalator.

Friday 20th May 2011
The England team arrived at the hotel in the morning and were given their three lions t-shirts and other tournoi bits and pieces. We all travelled by car and the coaches to Bisham Abbey and had lunch in the great hall then got ready for the opening games.

The opening ceremony began and Gigi sang us Nessun Dorma, Ivan then did a great opening ceremony speech and greeted all seven teams with some words in their own language.

The Three Lions started in a diamond formation and got the ball down early to feet, the first few minutes resulted in both teams rushing things and gifting away possession as the nerves of a new tournoi was still present, but things gradually settled.

England took the lead with their first attempt, when the ball was worked through midfield to Dave who flicked the ball through to TERRY who ran through and slotted past the keeper for the lead.

Hungary played some good football and Ismail made a good save from a free kick from the edge of the box and made a good near post save from a header, but then their main striker fell down in the area after absolutely no contact which was rather embarrassing and the referee told him to get up, then Steve told him what he thought in rather strong terms.

Dave almost doubled the lead when he got through and hit a shot across the keeper but a full length dive tipped the ball onto the post.

Dale and Dave were replaced by Eudimar and Mark at the break and the teams were relatively evenly matched in the second half. England almost got on the end of two teasing crosses but couldn't get the vital touch with the keeper coming out strongly to collect.

Jason and Andy then came on for Ivan and James and put themselves about immediately, Andy linked well with Ed and he jinxed his way down the touchline into the box but his attempted cross was blocked for a corner. Steve almost got a header from the corner but it was finally cleared.

Hungary had a couple of chances to hit back towards the end, when after a blatent handball was not spotted in the build up by the referees, their player at the back post hit the post and it bounced out to safety, followed by a player cutting in past two challenges but hitting his shot over the bar.

The gaffer was trying to keep players fresh so he made a few changes but England started quite sluggish and couldn't get going, Dale was slightly feeling his groin and this restricted him somewhat and FX started well with lots of energy for France.

Both Terry and Dave found time in the box after twisting and turning but couldn't get their shots on target and despite some play around the edge of the box we were rushing things and our final ball was not quite up to scratch.

France had some possession in our half but had not threatened until with the team pushing up, Steve was in front of his fellow defenders and a ball over the top saw their striker run through onside with someone playing him onside and he lobbed Ismail who was in no man's land to give the french the lead.

Stefano, Chris and James replaced Jason, Andy and Peggy and England started the second half much better. We got forward much more and allowed our wingers to run one on one with the full backs.

Five minutes into the second half Mark replaced Dale and it was an inspired substitution as Roger swung over a corner and MARK met the ball on the run and powered a header past the keeper for the equaliser.

Ed was full of energy and kept the french under pressure and continually ran at them with the ball, occassionally holding onto the ball a little too long and having it taken from him instead of releasing the ball early. Terry hurt his knee and Peggy came back on and went up front with Dave dropping into midfield.

England finally got the winner with five minutes left when Ed ran through midfield and fed ROGER who ran past the defence, holding off the defender and he slipped the ball into the bottom corner.

We nearly added a third when Peggy ran his full back then the centre back and pulled the ball back to Mark, even though he was aiming for Roger, but Mark glanced the ball a yard wide of the post with the goal at his mercy.

It had been a good day for the team with us being the only unbeaten team left in the competition despite not playing at our best throughout the day. We were on top of the group with six points with Belgium and Hungary on three points but France on nil points.

The meal was good and the teams were entertained with a belly dancer who got individuals up to dance with her in front of everyone. Chris and Steve have a lot to say but bottled the offer to dance with Steve looking away and Chris pretending to be on the phone. Ed did get up for a very short while but it was the Swiss and Spanish who really loved it.

Seven of the boys had a poker game in the bar with Dale winning the first game and Steve winning the second, whilst having a few drinks. It was around 1.30am when everyone went off to bed.

Saturday 21st May 2011
Breakfast was between 7am and 9am and the team ate early knowing they were set for the early kick off against Belgium at 10am. Dale drove up and we brought the rest of the water and settled in for what was going to be a very long day of knock-out football. Dave was unfortunately not available this second day.

There was a significant change on the second day with the gaffer not being able to play to his full potential on the pitch due to his groin strain he put himself in goal and that meant we had a fresh footed Ismail in midfield.

Roger took a rest and England knew that a draw would be enough to top the group and advance to the semi-final. The first half was pretty even with Belgium having some possession in our half but didn't get a shot on target during that spell.

England got down the flanks on a number of occassions but overhit the crosses and the chances were lost. Mark went down heavily and Dale substituted him for Roger and we were on top until the break.

Stefano and Ivan replaced Jason and Andy at the break, and started really well at the back putting in tackle after tackle. The three lions picked up the pace and were now getting on top, Peggy and Terry continued to get behind the defence and only good last minute tackling kept the scoreline level.

Belgium finally broke away and what appeared to be a cross ended up at the last minute turning into a shot and Dale had to be alert to parry the ball away from the near post top corner otherwise Belgium would have taken the lead.

England were gradually getting closer and finally took the lead with a few minutes remaining, Terry chased a ball over the top, tried to round the keeper who made a block, the ball fell loose and Terry slid in and cleanly played the ball back to Peggy who slipped the ball across to ROGER who beat the defender on the line with a shot into the bottom corner.

The keeper stayed down but no one understood why as there was not a foul in the build up, Roger went to check on him but the Belgian supporters started shouting at some of the english players but we didn't know why, as there did not appear to be any contact in the goal. The keeper eventually got up but hadn't received treatment for anything whilst down on the floor.

It was a disappointing end to what had been a good competitive game and saw England reach the semi-finals with a 100% record and Belgium have to settle for a place in the 5th/6th play-off.

The Three Lions came out of the blocks brilliantly at the start of the game and should have been a couple ahead in the first ten minutes. Terry was played behind the defence moments after the start and managed to lob the keeper with a deft little chip but the covering defender chased the ball down and cleared off the line.

The attacks kept coming and Roger got in down the right and drilled the ball across the six yard box about a foot wide of goal. Then he got down the left and drilled the ball across the six yard box the other way and Terry couldn't just find the touch at the back post.

Ismail and Ed were working well in midfield and the whole back four were extremely solid and the Spanish looked a little tired and didn't test Dale much in goal other than a couple of crosses that the keeper claimed easily.

Ivan, Stefano and Mark came on at half-time for Jason, Andy and James and the team were solid but lacking the creativity of the first half.

It became a bit of a midfield battle and the Three Lions attempted to keep getting the ball wide and swing balls into the box. Peggy was having a successful half down the right and beat the full back quite a lot, Terry, now on the left, was doing the same trying to feed Mark and Roger in the middle.

The breakthrough came ten minutes before the end when Roger swung in a corner and despite the attention of the defender all over his back, TERRY rose highest to glance the ball into the back of the net.

Mark had to come off injured and was replaced by James, but shortly after Spain got some momentum and won a couple of corners, and from one of these their midfielder shot low to the right bottom corner and Dale had to dive full length to push the ball around the post and bend his finger back in the process.

England finished the game off when the next attack James got down the left and the ball was played into Terry and his ball across the area found Ed whose shot was cleared on the line but ROGER followed up and found the bottom corner.

The hour long final was played on the international pitch and the grass was like carpet, the surface was fantastic and the sun was shining in the fabulous setting that was Bisham Abbey.

It was a relatively slow start to the final by England and the number of games and heat looked to be taking it toll, but despite a lot of possession early on by Hungary they did not test Dale once in goal with only a cross come shot going wide in the first half.

The Three Lions began to come to life and got down the right on a number of occasions and a ball into the box from Peggy bounced around the area and almost fell to one of our players for a back post tap in but a last ditch clearance managed to clear the danger.

On more than one occasion Terry ran his man down the touchline and in behind but was unable to find anyone with his cutback with the goal gaping. Then from a corner Steve saw his header just clear the crossbar.

At half-time Jason and Andy replaced Stefano and Ivan, and Dale told his players that there wasn't any need to rush things, we needed to slow the game down, look to get the ball to feet and try not to do too much as Terry and Roger were always looking to be played in behind with the right ball.

The second half was a more tactical affair and it became clear early on that Hungary were intent to hang on for the draw with a 4-5-1 formation and their back four camped on their own penalty area, not allowing Terry and Roger in behind.

England realised this and kept attempting to get in around the side of the defence and Peggy and James were doing this well. Mark came on for James just into the second half with Terry moving out onto the left.

Apart from one shot just over the crossbar, again Dale did not have a save to make in the second half and the defence was again solid not conceding a goal all day.

The home side continued to press and had quite a few chances, Roger ran across the area and passed to Peggy who drilled a shot towards the far side of the net but the keeper dived full length to tip the ball away, then Roger had a shot from outside the box that the keeper easily gathered.

Time was slowly ticking down and Mark went off with James coming back on and Terry going back up front. England had two chances near the end that sould have won them the tournoi but couldn't quite get the ball over the line, first a ball across the box bounced up five yards out and James glanced a header towards goal that the keeper somehow managed to block and fall on.

Then in the dying moments Roger found Peggy in the box, he turned and drilled the ball towards goal inches past the far post and with the keeper static, it would have been the winner had it hit the bottom corner.

The penalty shoot-out saw England go first and controversy reigned supreme from the first one, Roger stepped up and drilled towards the top corner but the keeper spectacularly saved.

However, the linesmans flag instantly went up and with the referee not looking Dale shouted at the referee to talk to his linesman. The decision was a re-take as the keeper had illegally advanced at least two metres forward before the ball was kicked, which made the ability to save the ball much easier. Roger stepped back up and scored low to the keepers right. They easily scored low to the right. 1-1.

Ed stepped up and missed to the right of the keepers post and they side footed into the left corner, 1-2 Hungary. James stepped up and scored and then their midfielder and current Loko player Marton stepped up and hit the post, 2-2.

Chris stepped up and scored low down the middle, then they sent Dale the wrong way again, 3-3. Terry stepped up and scored easily and they again sent Dale the wrong way. With Dale not feeling confident, after arguing with the Italians and Belgians near the goal over the correctly disallowed and re-taken penalty, Jason stepped up but blasted over the bar, ala Stuart Pearce, they sent Dale the wrong way again and the game was Hungary's.

It was such a shame for the english lads after statistically being the best team in the Tournoi, the only team unbeaten in normal time winning 4 and drawing 1, scoring the most and jointly conceding the least with Hungary. It was tough to take after dominating the final, maybe not on possession but definitely on good chances that we just didn't take.

The evening meal was great and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, the DJ was playing low music throughout the meal then Ivan started the presentation ceremony and was a natural on the mike while Dale presented the awards.

The agency girls, Rose and Valentina who had done a fantastic job throughout were presented with Champagne and Roger won the Tournoi Top Goalscorer award with three goals.

The teams were awarded trophies from eighth through to first.

The band came on and were great and the lads retired to the hotel bar to do the Player of the Tournoi award. Ivan was first presented with a bottle of champagne from the club for his magnificent hard work throughout the year and then the votes were counted with Ed getting the vote just ahead of Steve.

The lads all clubbed together and got Ivan a bottle of champers as well and presented Dale with a great little trophy that said thanks for all the effort in the last three years and a bottle of Jack Daniels, with Dale now stepping down after three years in the job.

A few of the players headed into Windsor to go clubbing but Dale, Roger and Ivan spent the evening on the dancefloor which was packed right until the end at midnight dancing to the DJ's music after the band had finished. Denise, Marcus and Jason also got involved with some moves, whilst Andy and family laughed at us all from the sidelines.

It was a good Tournoi and things worked out relatively well, with one or two glitches but that was to be expected as it is rare that things are done perfect. The England Tournoi was now finished and it is on to Belgium in 2012, Poland in 2013 and Spain in 2014.

Valiant Display Not Quite Enough

It was a fine sunny morning up in Chiswick for the Railwaymen's final league game of the season and the gaffers final match as manager. All thirteen players turned up and we started with a 4-4-2 formation, changing to 4-2-4 when we pushed forward.

The team was Dale in goal, a back four of Stefano, Chris, Steve and Ivan, with Diego, Ismail, Joe and Eudimar in midfield and Terry with Dave up front. Paul and Marc started on the bench.

It was a pretty even start and Joe and Ismail were sitting deep as requested and stifling Mass from attacking through the middle. Chris and Stefano started well on the right of the defence and put in some good early challenges and Dave had the first effort of the game when the ball found him on the edge but he could only bobble the effort wide.

Mass had a lot of possession but hadn't looked like getting ahead, until twenty minutes in when a simple ball through the middle saw the striker run clean through and hit the bottom corner, despite Dale getting fingertips to the ball but he couldn't get enough of the ball and it gave Mass the lead.

Terry kept the pressure on their back four and Loko won three or four corners in succession, and from one of these Steve nearly equalised but his header from eight yards was pushed over the crossbar by the keeper.

Mass nearly doubled their lead when they won a free kick right in the semi circle on the edge of Loko's box, but the wall held firm a good curled effort hit the outside of the post next to the top corner and bounched away for a goal kick to the home side.

Marc replaced Diego at the break and Paul came on for Ivan, with Stefano going left back and Paul on the right. Loko were still in the game and had played well but the gaffer asked for a little more composure with the ball as we kept giving away possession too easily.

It was another solid start to the half and the majority of the game was spent in midfield. Mass started to press and created a few chances, they hit the crossbar twice in the space of a couple of minutes with a free kick and then a long effort but Dale had it covered both times, they then hit the post from a tight angle but again the gaffer had it covered.

Loko tried to get forward and Dave and Terry linked up nicely but Dave could only shoot wide from the edge of the box. Terry twice got wide and ran the defence, putting balls into a dangerous area but we failed to attack the ball and it was easily cleared.

Mass continued to attack in numbers and Paul, Marc and Chris both made vital blocks all near the goal line and Dale had to make a full length diving block as they had two players at the back post unmarked, but pulled his groin in the process and now looks certain to play in goal in the Tournoi.

Dale managed to clear two others off the line with last ditch stops and they hit a number of efforts wide or straight at the keeper. The defending and effort had been superb and Loko almost stole an equaliser towards the end when the ball fell loose in the area and Steve could only hook the ball straight to the keeper from in the goalmouth.

It was a much better battling performance than we have had in a long time and a draw would have been deserved for the amount of effort the team put in, but it wasn't meant to be. The victory for Mass clinched them the cup and league double.

Manager Dale Mellor's comments:
"It was a very brave effort today from everyone and that is the best I have seen us battle in a long long time. We threw bodies in the way all over the park and I thought our defending today was outstanding.

It was a shame that we failed to create too much, but we lost our previous game to these 8-3 so we can be very satisfied with the improvement we have made throughout the season. I do not think the results fully justify all the performances we have put in over the course of the last few weeks.

I want to congratulate Stefano for winning Loko's Player of the Season award. It is very much deserved as he has been Mr Consistent and has also played in 27 of our 28 matches this season. If we had a team full of that level of commitment we may have achieved more.

Thank you to all our players this season and thank you to everyone who has helped me in my last three years as manager. It's time to pass on the mantle and hope someone can take us forward.

Let's finish the season on a high later this week at Bisham Abbey for our Tournoi."

Loko Contribute to Own Downfall

The team had a couple of people drop out on the morning of the game again, but managed to get Paul along at the last minute and we had a decent thirteen.

We started with the same 4-3-3 formation from the week before with Ismail in goal, a back four of Morris, Steve, Ivan and Stefano. Dale, Diego and George in the middle of the park with Dave, James and Terry upfront.

Northern started quickest and were pressing us back early on, they got behind the defence a couple of times but Morris and Steve provided good covering tackles to keep them at bay, they then hit the post with a breakaway. It was obvious after ten minutes that the formation was not working so we switched back to 4-4-2 and Loko finally settled down.

The railwaymen finally started to press forward and Diego and George linked well in midfield and got the ball into Dave who played a one two with James and got through on goal only for the keeper to come quickly off his line and smoother the effort.

Shortly after Terry got down the left and swung a ball to the back post where Diego came in and looked like getting on the end of it, but the flag went up and the chance was lost. Diego and Dave both had shots from the edge of the area that were blocked and it was now a much more solid performance.

Loko fell behind to the usual comical goal, Ismail mishit the goalkick, Steve was talking to the midfield and caught unaware and the striker ran through and slotted past Ismail for an easy goal.

George went down with an injury to his ankle but nobody seemed to see what happened, although his ankle had swollen to double the size so an ambulance was called and he went off to hospital to have an x-ray taken. It will hopefully not be too bad, and Joe came on to take his place with a bit of a reshuffle taking place.

Half-Time Loko 0 v Real Northern 'B' 1

Paul was off waiting for the ambulance so there were no changes at half-time, it was obvious that we needed to press higher up the pitch so that's what we discussed.

The railwaymen now began their most productive period of the game and with Terry going up front, should have equalised straight away when Steve chipped the ball over the top and sent Terry away but he couldn't get his shot on target from just inside the penalty area.

Terry nearly scored again when he challenged the keeper after being played through, the ball broke loose past the keeper but the ball wouldn't sit for him and the covering defender cleared for a corner.

The railwaymen continued to press and when a corner was cleared, Dale (pictured above) picked up the ball on the left sideline, played a neat one two with James and hit a thirty yard curler a few inches past the far post.

Unfortunately, after lots of pressure and possession for us they scored another soft goal to kill the game. A corner was swung in and Ismail failed to get to it and it hit their striker and Steve before rolling over the line in another defendable situation where we failed to clear our lines.

Their striker was then played through and Morris tracked back well allowing Stefano to come around and clear the ball to safety, but the third goal came shortly after when they attacked the box, we had chances to but failed to clear our lines and the free man at the back post had an easy time sidefooting home from five yards.

Manager Dale Mellor's comments:
"Another defensive mistake and we have to chase the game from early on. It was another slow start from us and we gave ourselves too much to do.

If we had started like we played for the middle thirty minutes of the match then things may have been different. We had a couple of great chances but we were not clinical enough and were outbattled at keys times of the game when we needed to step up.

It was good fitness for the team and allowed us to see more of Paul and Joe who are both looking good. Shame to see George head off to hospital with a swollen ankle, let's hope for good news with the Tournoi only 12 days away."

Dale - I have been instructed by Ivan and a couple of others to give myself the man of the match, I tried to keep us going throughout and battled away gamely in midfield. I was inches away with my 35 yard effort in the second half as well.

Special mention to Stefano who I thought was outstanding at covering the back four yet again, Terry for lots of effort and pace, and to Joe who is really bringing a positive influence to the team.

Edged Out Despite Battling Display

Finally we had a week when all thirteen players turned up in time for kick off. We went with a 4-3-3 formation with Ismail in goal, a back four of Morris, Ivan (pictured below), Paul and Stefano, a midfield three of Peggy, Dale and Diego with Marco up front in the centre, James on his right and George on his left. Marton and Michael started on the bench.

The game kicked off and became a midfield scrap from the start with both sides creating little, and Loko were kicking up the slight hill with the wind blowing against them. It was a decent opening period from Loko but despite having three up front it was Invictus that looked more threatening early on.

They nearly got over the top of the defence on a couple of occasions but Paul and then Stefano swept up well, and Ivan was sticking like glue to their captain who continually moaned at the referee, with the referee having to intervene between the pair on numerous occasions.

Invictus should have taken the lead about twenty five minutes in, when Peggy challenged their player from behind in the penalty area and he fell to the ground. The referee thought about it then blew his whistle for the penalty, which was a bit harsh but seems to be the calls we are getting this season.

Their player stepped up but Ismail dived to his left and palmed the ball forward, and Dale was the first to the rebound to hook the ball clear. It was a let off and Loko needed to pick up the pace, which they finally did.

Peggy and James linked up well down the right and played Marco in to the right of the centre backs but he could only drill a strong effort into the sidenetting.

Then Diego and Dale linked up in midfield and the latter played a ball into Marco, kept his run going and was found with a great return pass, he tried to bring the ball down from his chest but the ball just wouldn't come down for him to hit a volley and the defender came across and conceded a corner.

George was having some success up the left hand side and won a free kick outside the box, but Diego's free kick flashed harmlessly wide. It was a solid first half and Ismail, aside from the penalty, had had little else to do.

Half-Time Loko 0 v Invictus 0

At the break Marton came on for George, with Marton joining the midfield three and Diego pushing further forward into the spot vacated by George. The gaffer asked for a higher defensive line as the strong wind should help us try and push them back.

The Railwaymen started the second half relatively well and maintained some pressure in the Invictus half without ever really threatening to creating much. The ball wasn't sticking with the front three and we kept gifting them back possession relatively softly.

They took the lead ten minutes into the half and it was another gift of a goal that we have been conceding all year, the ball was played through behind the defence, Ismail called for the ball but Paul decided to play the ball instead.

He tried to dribble out of defence but was robbed of possession just inside his own penaly area on the right and a ball across the penalty spot was easily tucked into the bottom corner despite Morris handballing on the line.

Loko heads dropped and they had a number of attacks where they could have made their numbers count better. Ismail made a couple of great diving stops to tip the ball around the post, and they also hit the post. Michael came on to replace James up front.

The referee was very inconsistent with his decision making and both Diego and Dale entered the book for deliberating some very dodgy calls. Peggy was also booked for a late tackle in midfield.

Loko had a couple of half chances when Marco got goal side of his defender but on both occasions tried speculative long range shots that were both high and wide. Michael then dribbled in off the left sideline and hit a shot from outside the box that was deflected wide for a corner.

With time running out and seconds left on the clock, Loko had their final chance of the match when Dale won a tackle in midfield, the ball ran to Marco, Dale continued his run and was played through on goal but with the defender catching up with him, he took an early shot from the edge of the area that failed to find the target.

Manager Dale Mellor's comments:
"It was a good performance all round from everybody, we were in the game until the end and were unlucky that we didn't take what few chances we had.

There was plenty of battling spirit out there and it was great to see, every single player can walk away with their head held high. If we can cut out the mistakes that seem to plague us from week to week then we may start collecting some more points.

Ivan - Everybody played well but I thought Ivan was fantastic, he marshalled their big centre forward really well and disrupted his game and got him moaning about everything.

Loko Run Out of Steam & Collapse

Loko had fourteen men turn up including a new keeper and were quietly optimistic that they could put in a decent performance and get a result against third place Kew Antigua 'C'.

However, like most games we didn’t start too well with players giving the ball away too easily and panicking which let the opposition dominate the midfield area early on. It is fair to say that, during the first twenty five minutes, our goal led a charmed life with a few efforts just wide or hitting the post and a few saves from our new keeper James.

As the first half went on, Loko rode their luck and then started to place a few passes together and get a rhythm going with some good build-up play which resulted in some dangerous attacks. Loko could see a goal coming and it did with about ten minutes until half-time.

There was some good link-up play between Stefano and Joe and the ball was passed to Marc who took on a couple of defenders on the edge of the box and had a shot that took a slight deflection and beat the opposition keeper for a 1-0 Loko lead.

For the rest of the half Loko soaked up the pressure and went in with the lead.

Half-Time Loko 1 v Kew Antigua 'C' 0

Loko could sense that Kew did not like being down to the second bottom team and would come out strong so we carried on attacking and within five minutes we were two nil up.

There was some good link-up play in the midfield between Joe and Marc who then passed the ball to Dave (pictured above). Our forward weaved in and out left and right into the box, dribbling past two players, beating the central defender for pace and scuffed a shot goalwards. The opposition keeper had already started to dive the other way resulting in Dave's effort crossing the line and a 2-0 lead.

As soon as we had scored the second goal we relaxed too much and Kew passed the ball through our team too easily. There was a shot, which wasn’t cleared properly and it was left for their player to tap it in at the near post behind the defenders.

This goal seemed to shock Loko and we started to panic on the ball again rather than get the ball down and play football. Kew capitalised on this and they sensed an equaliser, however Loko continued to soak up the constant pressure and had a couple of attacks themselves until the last ten minutes.

On one of them, Joe sped along the touchline past his marker and crossed the ball to oncoming Roland who found himself clear on goal on the edge of the box but he scuffed his shot.

There was ten minutes left and with a combination of substitutes and losing our shape with players not knowing where they were playing or their role, we conceded a further four goals and lost 5-2.

This late collapse can only be put down to some poor defending and as new players came on, the shape changed, there was not enough communication and the Kew players were not getting picked up.

This was giving them far too much time and space on the ball and allowed them to score soft goals. It was a brave effort but yet again we were in a winning position late on in the game and threw it away to lose.

Club Secretary Ivan Rahal's comments:
“I took myself off mid-way through the second half and watched the game from the side of the pitch where my feelings went from a mixture of excitement and anxiety to total despair. In the gaffer’s absence I recognise that I should have given the two midfield substitutes clearer instructions as to their midfield positions and roles.

However, we cannot take away the fact that Kew Antigua have a decent side and were probably better than us on the day. All things considered, though, conceding 4 goals in the last 10 minutes undoubtedly shows that our overall fitness is not up to scratch. If the squad players are up for it and prepared to commit, we should seriously consider training midweek.

We now have a well deserved two week break and three more games in May plus the European Tournament at Bisham Abbey to look forward to so let’s forget about today and hope for good performances once our regular players are back …"

Good Effort Despite Let Down's Again

The team should have had thirteen players and we even had the luxury of naming three players on standby, but yet again we had two players not turn up and not even let us know so that we had no time to ask any of the standby players to come along.

The gaffer was planning an attacking 4-3-3 formation but the lack of personal for this system now meant reverting to the usual 4-4-2 with Dale now having to go in goal, a back four of Marc, Ivan, Paul and Stefano. Roger and Ed were centre midfield with Diego and Morris on the flanks, with Joe and Artjom up front.

The team started relatively well, we weren't able to get forward much because the opposition were playing the ball around well, but we were solid at the back and other than a couple of long range efforts they didn't really look like breaking the back line.

Unfortunately, only fifteen minutes in Joe started to run for a ball over the top but pulled up with a muscle problem around his hip area and he was now struggling to get around the pitch so he dropped into midfield to provide us with an extra body as he wasn't able to move around up front.

They took the lead about twenty minutes in and it was a goal that could have so easily have been avoided, they worked the ball through midfield but a good challenge saw Morris pick up the ball on the right side of the penalty box, he had plenty of time to clear his lines but dwelt on the ball, was robbed of possession and the ball across the area was hit home at the back post.

Loko kept competing and just about stayed in the game as they hit a few shots wide and didn't really test Dale in goal again during the half. The railwaymen had a couple of forays into their penalty area but didn't create to much and failed to get shots away.

Half-Time Loko 0 v Worcester Park Rangers 1

The talk at half-time was all positive, we re-organised and went back to 4-4-2, with the same back four, Roger and Morris in the centre of midfield, Ed and Artjom on the wings with Diego and Joe up front. Everyone was up for the second half.

Loko started the second half much better than the first and spent the first ten minutes pressurising higher up the pitch and we managed to get the ball in the box on a few occasions but failed to get on the end of anything.

Fifteen minutes into the second half and a break away by Rangers saw men attack the box and a ball into the area was tucked into the bottom corner quite sweetly by their unmarked player and the hill back became a mountain. The third followed shortly after when one of their players got past Paul and Stefano by the corner flag too easily and laid it into the striker at the near post who miskicked it through Dale's attempted block.

Stefano's knee was hurting so he went in goal for Dale after 75 minutes, and a bit of reshuffling followed allowing Dale to play alongside Roger in midfield. Ivan was playing well now at left back and Marc started putting the tackles in in central defence.

Ed and Diego started to get some joy in the opposition half and Dale almost immediately made an impact when he dribbled past a couple of challenges in the area and tried to pull the ball back for Joe but he was crowded out by the defenders.

Loko eventually pulled a goal back when Ed was fouled by the left touchline 35 yards from goal, Roger swung in a ball to the back post, DALE ran in unmarked and called for the ball, Ivan kindly ducked and the gaffer drilled a header into the roof of the net.

Almost immediately, another Roger free kick from just inside Rangers half also found Dale at the back post tussling with his marker but this time he could only head into the side netting under pressure. Loko kept going and Artjom beat his marker well down the right, ran into the box but tried to pass when he could have shot and the chance was lost.

With Loko pushing men forward, another breakaway completed the scoring when they played a ball over the top, the striker looked way offside but the referee who had given little our way during the game said play on, he ran through but they hit the crossbar and we had chances to clear but didn't take them and one of their players jinked into the box and had an easy shot into the bottom corner to complete the scoring.

Manager Dale Mellor's comments:
"It is getting to a point where players need to really consider whether they want to play Sunday morning football. We have a lot of players playing 1 in 3 games, others who don't respond to emails and recently a spate of players saying yes then not turning up.

It is making our life hell trying to put a team out on the pitch each week, and even harder to put out one that is going to be competitive. We will only start winning games when we can get the same team out every game, as we have to get used to each other and get an understanding out on the pitch.

In regards to this morning, I thought everyone worked really hard and put in a good shift despite players playing out of position and with no subs. If Joe hadn't have got injured so early on I think we would have had more options up front and wouldn't have been penned back so much. We had a new defence and new players but performed admirably. Well done."

More New Players, Same Old Result

The team lined up with another four new players, with Chris's brother Henry in goal, a back four of Stefano, Ivan, Chris and Ismail, a midfield containing Diego, Dale, Morris and Artjom with James and new signing Joe up front. Tim and late arriving George started on the bench. Stefano (pictured below) was made captain for the day in recognition of his fantastic commitment this season, missing just the one game.

Loko started relatively well with them beginning with nine, but a couple of minutes in they were back upto a full eleven but we had started focused and continued that early on. Joe almost got through on goal a couple of times but was unable to beat the last defender, then Dale played Diego in down the left but he tried to dribble into the box instead of taking an early shot.

Greyhound gradually got into the game and started to push the makeshift Loko team backwards. The Railwaymen were keeping the shape well but unfortunately went behind after half an hour when the opposition scored a goal direct from a corner and it was such a soft goal to gift them the lead when we had been in the game.

Within five minutes Henry did well to tip a close range shot over the bar but shortly after the striker got free down the edge of the box and Chris caught his back leg and sent him tumbling to the ground. The referee didn't hesitate pointing to the spot, and after some niggling with one of their players in regard to edge of box position, their player shot down the middle but Henry was unable to get to it.

Half-Time Greyhound 2 v Loko 0

George replaced Artjom at the break and the team came out with a fighting spirit and enjoyed some early territorial possession in and around the Greyhound box without ever really threatening to score. Joe, James and Dale all had shots wide or blocked by defenders.

As the half progressed, the Railwaymen got tired and started to lose the shape that had been there for much of the game and started to get overrun at the back. Ismail and Chris were getting the tackles in but were drifting deeper as the half progressed which left a lot of space in midfield for them to pass the ball in triangles and get the midfield chasing the ball around.

James dropped deeper and started putting in some tackles which really helped out and he was playing well, and kept winning the ball and finding the wingers.

The game ended when a long hopeful ball to the back post resulted in Stefano heading into his own goal, Henry had started to come but didn't get there and with the striker right behind him, Stef lost his bearings and headed into the empty net.

Tim came on for his debut and replaced Morris, and immediately made a nuisance of himself. Joe continued to keep working but as the team dropped deeper to try and contain the opposition he became more and more isolated.

The fourth was a long ball over the top and with Chris and Ismail chasing back, it was a straight race between Henry coming out and the striker, which the latter won when he put in a strong challenge and the ball bounced kindly to allow him to tap home just before Chris could get back on the line.

Dale and Ismail changed positions but their final goal came when the winger came in off the touchline and was afforded far too much space and he curled a ball to the back post which went straight in, whether he meant it only he will know.

Loko kept battling gamely, and despite another couple of chances for Greyhound, finished the game with some pressure in the opposition half. James was high tackled in the box and Loko were given a penalty. Diego stepped up but his shot was straight at the keeper with little power and was easily saved.

It was a tough morning, with lots of players missing again and more new faces that didn't have time to blend into the squad. It was good to see people trying right until the end.

Manager Dale Mellor's comments:
"It was a difficult week for us, missing a lot of players and having four new faces join the squad. We started quite well but faded as the game went on. Greyhound were gifted their first three goals and after that it was a case of damage limitation.

Thanks to the new guys for coming along and helping us out and they have been added to the squad list to increase competition for places. Let's try to get a settled team for the remainder of the season and head into our summer tournament in positive fashion."

So Close to Victory Yet So Far...

Loko started well against Worcester Park Rangers with a confidence that belied their league position, it was first against second bottom but anyone watching would have thought we were top of the league and they were second bottom.

Rangers couldn’t cope with our positive play and we took the game to them and after fifteen minutes Steve took a free kick which was picked up by DAVE, who played a one-two with Morris and was clean through on goal before chipping in a left foot shot past the oncoming keeper.

We continued to take the game to Rangers but were continually been hit on the counter attack through the midfield area. It wasn't long before Dale passed to MARC (pictured above) who dashed down the wing and his long range cross/shot went in the top corner via the post and cross bar, stunning goal and a two goal lead for the Railwaymen.

They almost got a goal back after a lot of pressure but their striker at the back post fluffed his lines and a mixture of Ismail making a good save and frantic defending got the ball clear.

About ten minutes before half time their winger got down the wing and got in a cross far too easily and a lapse in concentration by our defence let the unfittest player on the pitch, nip in and score a close range goal to pull them within one.

The rest of the half was closely contested but Loko were just about on top.

Half-Time Worcester Park Rangers 1 v Loko 2

Despite Loko being up at half time, we didn’t capitalise on this and take the game to Rangers. The manager sent the team out in the same 4-4-2 formation and asked for more of the same in the second half, and to enjoy being ahead against the league leaders, pointing out that we had scored 25% of the goals they had conceded all season in one half.

For the first twenty five minutes of the half, despite still playing a 4-4-2 formation, Loko struggled to gain ground in the opposition half as they launched various attacks at the Railwaymen to get themselves back in the contest. The defending was steady and we restricted them to only a back post header which Dale, who had gone in goal in place of Ismail, got down to push around the post.

Unfortunately, Stefanio picked up a bad knee injury and had to switch with Marc and go out on the right wing.

With little threat going forward from Loko, Rangers created a succession of chances when they curled a yard wide of the top corner, Steve miskicked a cross and Stefano deflected his clearance just past his own post and then after Dale saved a low shot they hit the underside of the bar and the ball bounced to Marc who made an excellent clearance.

There were now only twenty minutes left and with players tiring and Rangers getting closer to an equaliser, Dale brought Morris back into midfield to shore up the gaps and stop them creating more chances.

When they nearly scored from a header at the back post that had gone out of play, Dale argued with the referee after he had relied on a linesman that was twenty yards behind play, but avoided a yellow card after agreeing to get on with the game.

They equalised shortly after when a goalkick was headed back at the defence and their player was on his own on the edge of the box and his shot looked to be going wide but hit the post and bounced in.

The third followed almost immediately when they broke in numbers and the ball into the box saw two players unmarked in the middle of the penalty area and the one slotted home into the bottom corner. When someone questioned the defenders marking, Dale lost control and pointed out four of our five midfielders further up the field watching play when they put the ball into the back of the net, when they should have been tracking their midfielders back.

This resulted in Dale and Dave arguing over tactics, and Dale wrongly lost control of his emotions and had clearly had enough for the day. He should have left it until after the game but continued to be angry throughout the remainder of the game arguing with their players and questioning his decision to keep on managing.

Loko were struggling as the outburst from the manager had upset a couple of players and we were trying to get our shape back. Loko then started to play for each other despite what had happened, took the game to Rangers but after a Loko attack Rangers broke quickly and cut through the defence, and scored a fourth.

Despite being let's say emotionally challenged, Dale managed to punch a clearance away from the striker who would have had a free header eight yards out and got down full length to his left to save a drilled shot from the edge of the box. Loko could have pulled a goal back when a good move resulted in us hitting the post late in the second half as we finally mounted some pressure in the Rangers half.

Despite what took place in the last fifteen minutes and being 2-0 up but losing 4-2, in the last ten minutes we really played for each other and gave Rangers a hard game, this considering we only had eleven players and three good players had pulled out the night before. Dale left immediately after the game to calm down as he decided it was best to say nothing at all, rather than start arguments with the any members of the team.

Manager Dale Mellor's comments:
"First up, I let my emotions get the better of me, and this should have waited until after the game or possibly the following week. It was wrong to react as I did but these things sometimes get the better of us, especially when we are let down by players not turning up and decisions going against us. In seven years with Loko I have never known a year when things go against us so much.

In relation to the game, I thought for seventy minutes we were great but then we lost the shape completely as tiredness set in. They created a number of chances and we were not getting forward in the second half and spent the vast majority of the half with Steve camped on our 18 yard box telling me he couldn't get the players forward because the ball kept coming back, hence the change in formation to tighten up the midfield with just under twenty minutes to go.

We needed to sit in formation and make it difficult for them to break us down as we had for the game up until then, but it was all too easy to attack us in numbers and overrun us towards the end.

To win games against confident teams such as these, who are doing well in the league, we needed a ninety minute performance but as with many games this season, the game was lost in that last twenty minute spell."

Tantalising Terry Doubles For Win

Another late cancellation on Saturday night did not help the team but we still managed to get together a healthy squad of twelve for this bottom of the table shootout on a fine sunny Sunday morning.

A 4-4-2 formation saw Ismail in goal, and a back four of Morris (pictured above), Steve, Chris and Stefano. Terry and George started on the wings with Marton and Diego in the centre with Dale and Mark up front. Hakim started on the bench.

It was a relatively slow start for Loko who were second to the ball early on and did not heed Dale's words before the match to just go out there and have some fun. They pinned us back in the early stages of the game and had a lot of possession in and around the area without really threatening.

The Railwaymen were getting forward in bursts and could have took the lead when Marton played the ball into Dale who played a first time ball out to Terry on the wing and he ran in and hit a first time shot which the keeper tipped around the post.

Loko were being harried in midfield and were guilty of giving the ball away too often, Marton and Diego kept getting dragged wide and Parklife started to get a lot of space in the middle. One of their midfielders played a ball over the top, their striker got there first and lobbed Ismail but the goal was disallowed for offside, they also had a couple of penalty shouts turned down and Loko were hanging on.

A positional change made all the difference with Dale dropping to centre midfield, Diego went out to the right and Terry went up top, all of a sudden Loko had a holding midfielder not getting dragged wide and some genuine pace up front. Morris was having a cracking game at right back and won every tackle he went for throughout.

Almost straight away Terry was played down the right, and had Dale on the pull back but chose to play a ball across the six yard line but Mark failed to gamble and the chance was lost.

Loko finally took the lead when a kick from Ismail was flick headed by Marton, then again by Mark which sent TERRY away behind the defence, he ran the defender and drilled a shot past the keeper with his left foot which went in off the post to give the Railwaymen the lead.

Half-Time Loko 1 v Parklife 'B' 0

The team talk was simple, the game was there for us to win and we had to be up for this from the first whistle, and to go out and enjoy the second half.

Loko were on top throughout the second half and started to press them higher and higher up the pitch, it made a difference and they struggled to get out of their own half. Marton and Dale were now controlling the centre and Steve was organising the back four well.

The Railwaymen went further ahead when Diego won the ball on the right, he skinned his man and slipped it into Mark who played a ball into the area, TERRY ran across the line and beat the keeper to the ball, rounded him and tapped home from seven yards out.

Hakim replaced two assist Mark and was lively straight away, buzzing around up front and making a nuisance of himself. Dale and George shared three long range efforts with only Dale hitting the target with a low drive that was easily saved by the keeper.

Dale took a couple of challenges to his previously injured ribs and had to go in goal, with Ismail replacing him in centre midfield. Terry could have scored again when he was played through and drilled across the keeper but missed the far post by a few inches.

Parklife rallied towards the end but failed to trouble Dale in goal, they did almost break through on goal but Chris clumsily clipped the strikers ankles and took a yellow card for the team. They then had another break and a foul gave them a free kick when advantage would have put their striker through on goal. From the freekick Dale made his only save quite comfortably.

Towards the end, Chris hit the side netting with a flicked header and Diego cut inside the defender and his low shot was well saved by the keeper, and then Morris broke the last line of the defence on the right of the six yard line and hit a rasping shot which the keeper tipped around the post at full length.

A very good last hour from the boys and a first league win in 2011.

No Show's Cause Loko's Downfall

This week’s game against Wee House Celtic, a physical but fair team that gave us two good league and cup matches this season was a game to look forward to…until Saturday 6pm. This is when things started going wrong with three players pulling out, followed by two no-shows on the Sunday morning. As a result, Lokomotiv had to kick off with only ten players including one player on painkillers due to a damaged rib.

On a surprisingly smooth Riverside Lands pitch and despite the odds being stacked against them, Lokomotiv held their own for the first twenty five minutes. True, some of our players were overcomplicating things and going for the odd extra dribble instead of passing the ball to their unmarked teammates. However, the Railwaymen were rather composed despite a few Wee House Celtic incursions which were being relatively well handled by the defence.

Eudimar, Diego and Dave were combining well in midfield whilst Steve was as commanding in defence as ever. However, a la Arsenal, Lokomotiv were not taking their chances and didn’t shoot enough, preferring to go for intricate passed in the box.

Meanwhile, Wee House Celtic were beginning to develop their games and from a cross zipping in from the left, their number ten headed a cannonball just a few inches over the crossbar. On the half hour mark, a loose ball that didn’t get picked up by Aaron got intercepted by one of their midfielders out on the right and he slammed the ball home from twenty five yards out into the roof of the net.

Lokomotiv heads dropped for a very short while but, just before half-time, DAVE went on a mazy run from the left hand side of their box, past two players, and shot in the direction of their static keeper. The ball came off his shin and into the net for what can arguably be referred to as Loko’s softest goal of the season.

Lokomotiv now sensed that they were in with a shout… ...until the last seconds of the half, when fate would have it that it wasn't meant to be our day after all. Greg (pictured above) was chasing a loose ball on the edge of their box when he had to stop dead in his tracks and hopping in pain with all the tel-tale signs of a hamstring injury.

Yet, Loko didn’t let this setback dent their confidence and were containing the opposition relatively well until half time.

It was decided that, instead of Greg standing in the middle of the pitch on one leg, he would be better used as a goalkeeper. This turned out to be a fatal error. Our new recruit was in deep pain and almost immobile.

Just at the beginning of the second half, a rather innocuous long Wee House Celtic punt from out wide landed on Greg’s left hand but he wasn’t able to deal with it and the ball trickled into the back of the net.

Greg subsequently went off with Ismail back in goal thus leaving the Railwaymen struggling with only nine players on the pitch. Yet, again and again, Lokomotiv were being adventurous and hoping for an equaliser. Aaron on the right wing was causing their defence problems with his speed.

On seventy minutes, Diego cut their defence open from the middle of the park with a through ball for Aaron who found himself clear on goal on the right but his shot from the edge of the box hit the side netting. Diego and Dave were being encouraged to shoot from all angles because of the recognised weakness of their keeper but their shots were either scuffed or not targeted enough.

Wee House scored again when their forward headed the ball into the net from five yards out and to the right of Ismail whose view was being blocked by Ivan and the things got a bit heated on the pitch with Eudimar complaining to the ref about Wee House’s physical challenges.

However, the most notable incident as the game was winding down was an altercation between a Wee House defender and their forward who ended up spitting on his own player and being escorted off the pitch.

Lokomotiv were still trying but clearly, at nine against eleven, they never stood a chance.

Club Secretary Ivan Rahal's comments:
“Never ever in the history of the club have we had five players drop out within twenty four hours of a game. Some of these no-shows were unavoidable but I wish these players had given some thought about their timing.

Telling us you cannot make it so late in the day is the equivalent of a team hara kiri and leaves us with no realistic chance of finding a replacement. Think about how the other players feel when they turn up and realise that their efforts on the day are all going to be in vain.

On the positive side, I cannot praise today’s attitude of our players high enough. We really gave it a go and never let our heads drop for too long. Even Wee House gave us credit after the game for our hard battle. Well done guys.”
